The new £199 Golf arrived today, and I’m over the moon with it! :)

I've driven it quite a bit this morning and it's really surprised me. It's very solid (Merc like) and very refined.

The engine note is quiet and non-intrusive and to me seems an excellent all round car, which is spec'd very well considering the price. For example, auto-sense headlamps and auto-sensing wipers as standard, dual zone digital climate control, decent radio and CD-player, 6 speed box, multifunction computer with buttons on the stalk for controlling this.

Last but not least, it pulls like a train! I'm sure this diesel would outrun some similar cars, and my harsh driving still managed 48.7MPG !!

For the price, you can't go wrong....

Cool - glad it's looking good - not fair on that consumption though :D that's far to good :D

That's looking really good Maff, I really think VW has got it's act together again after a run of poor Golfs. (MK2 16V was the last of the real GTi's! :D )

Was the transaction straight forward, or do you have any advice for people looking to do the same?

Cheers,

Have to agree again :D I had one of those; fantastic car. Think Maff's Golf would give it a good run though ;)

True, I think Maff's Golf would probably be better in most areas, but will we still be posting about it in 15 years time :D

Remember destroying 5th gear on my 16v after a prolonged nearly in the red autobahn blast.

Took it to the dealers and they said "Ya, Ze all do ziss"!! :D :D

Pretty straight forward. You have to send your company accounts off first, and then once the OK is given you can see what car's they have, and choose your colours etc and then they place an order. Fill in two forms (nothing hard), post back and three weeks later a car is delivered. Also have to arrange the insurance. For me (24) it was £511/year.

None of them suitable for making into a baby-car pic though! Pretty poor effort if you ask me! Get back out there with the camera and take a mostly-side-on pic please! ;) :p

Will do when it stops raining!

Cool! A side-on pic is ok but if it has some of the front on it as well then it looks more natural :) . Take a bunch of pics in fact, just to be sure! :)

Thats a good price, tried to get one of the new models about 6 months ago but the best price on contract was £270, ended up with a polo which is rubbish (not v well built and v noisy), the golf's much nicer all round. Congrats.

Did you pay extra for that plate, or was it by pure luck/chance! ;) :D

Looks very nice though - £199/month is a steal if you ask me. :)

Cheers,

Will

Oh, but sorry, the tax disc holder looks like it is in the way! :p

Cheers,

Will :D

I may have a dabble myself . Could you let me have the contact hire firms details please?

Ahh I remember them - they were the first people that I ordered the crossfire from. They were a joy to deal with, but I decided in the end to stay with Skyfleet (also RBOS contracts).

Will definitely look at them for my next car. :-)

Did you get maintained or not?

Non maintained, but to be honest it probably wont do more than 7000 miles anyway. Been to B&Q and Wickes on my first trip this evening! Would never do that in the CL!
