Tuesday and my wife takes delivery of her brand spangley SLK200 in black with grey leather, airscarf, phone pre-wire and lots of goodies.
Great, wind in hair on days like these and can be a real Merc luxury car when the weather is less than dry.
Thursday and a large double decker trys to take the side out of my parked E220 and succeeds in completley removing the drivers door mirror, and putting large scrapes and dents in the door and front wing!
This was 200miles from home but within 30mins of reporting the incident to my insurers, my local Mercedes dealer was offering and appointment with thier bodyshop to view the damage. I'll be pleased if the repairs are handled as well.

1 - Congrat's - looks lovely.

2 - Gutted for you mate - hope they do deal with it as efficiently as they've started out.

Fingers crossed that everything works out okay.

Congratulations on the new car.

John

Like the grey leather on the SLK.

Don't like the scrape down the side of your E. Buses, lorries are unforgiving when it comes to scraping cars - I remember a Waitrose lorry scraped the side of my parked Moggy Minor all those years ago when I was learning to drive. The driver knew nothing about it but fortunately some kind soul left the details on a piece of paper under the wiper. Hope yours gets repaired oK

So far so good

Robinsons of Norwich have looked at the damage and booked the car in 8days time for a week and will fit a new door. 'Don't normally fit skins these days due to the corrosion warrany'
So Mercedes are paying attention, and I hope to have a pristine car again within 2weeks.
Now what's the next bad news.....

Under Mobilo Corrosion cover your new door will only be coverd for 3 years against rust/corrosion claims and would be a gamble IF that door was to rust in the future after 3 years if DC were to honour the claim under Mobilo as DC would argue it was a "poor repair" as paint thickness is usually measured on the cars... Good luck with the repairs and paint match etc.

Edit: Bodyshops only warrant their repairs for 1 year normally...

See! I knew there would be some bad news along next!
Thanks Flash!

Mention this to the "third party insurer" and get them to compensate for this in the claim...

You could also use the argument of "nano" paint technology as well which can only be done at the factory and not by any bodyshop to get further compensation...;)

In the USA a owner managed to get a minor accident resulting in the entire car being "written off" as he argued that the paint on the repairs would not be using the "nano" paint technology the same as the OEM finish...

Hi Mactech,
I would take Flash's comments very much with a pinch of salt. our old 210 had to have new doors (or skins) following an accident, and I went out of my way to get reassurance from DaimlerChrysler that the Mobilio will remain in tact. Flash has a bee in his bonnet and has issues with Mercedes-Benz which perhaps might effect his replies. We are very fortunate in having an extremely knowledgeable person on this forum that has had conversations with staff at Milton Keynes over this issue, who again concur with what I am saying, but like me he gets fed up with repeating himself and may not respond.

Mobilio only covers corrosion from the inside, out and as we all keep saying most if not all claims so far have NOT been for this. I myself was under the impression that bubbling paintwork was a good indication of this type of corrosion, but better educated folks have since put me right.

Hi Flash,
I accept you will not budge from your opinion, but please, please try not to enforce it on others. You have failed to answer any of my previous questions from our last attempt at explaining this, so here goes again.

1. If you break down and claim under mobilio for hotel accommodation, are you seriously trying to say you can never again claim for accommodation?

2. If you breakdown with a gearbox failure and need mobilio assistance, are you suggesting that you will never be able to claim again for assistance if the gearbox fails again?

3. Where do you get this three years warranty for the new door\wing etc?

Mobilio is NOT divided into separate sections that you can cherry pick, it is an all or nothing package. If you can claim more than once for a breakdown then hopefully you 'might accept you can claim more than once for a similar bodywork repair)

Another member stated that if you wanted to have your car repaired by someone other than the insurance preferred agent you would have to go to at least TWO other Mercedes-Benz authorised agents. Just like you, they posted it on this forum and want everyone to accept that is fact!! We are all entitled to our opinions, but individual experiences, whether good or bad, do NOT make them the policy. I do not disbelieve that member, I am merely saying that what they suggested, does not apply to everyone. My good experiences do NOT apply to everyone, I accept that and always try to give an impartial opinion.

I was getting concerned that my good experiences were out of the 'norm' but quite clearly they are not, there are any number of folks that have responded to various questions and it is only the very minority that have bad experiences with dealerships but they tend to shout the loudest.

So mactech, your new parts are covered by mobilio from the date of first registration of your car. If next year the same vehicle decides to remove the new bits, then fear not. No I did not get this in writing   , nor did the other member get their conversation in writing, but I guarasntee you that Flash will NOT show you anywhere that states you can only make one claim!!! Still never let the truth spoil a good moan.

Incidentally I was worried about the repair effecting the secondhand value of my car, especially as it was on the dealership computer print-out. (They dealt with ALL the aspects of this incident).

I was assured it would not, just like I was assured about the mobilio cover. Sure enough when I bought our new Mercedes-Benz, the best real money package came from the local dealer. I could certainly have bought the new car cheaper elsewhere, but I would then not have got the equivalent trade in value of my 210. Swings and roundabouts :) .

My sincere apologies if I appear to have come down hard on Flash, that is NOT my intent, but it is unfair to give anyone incorrect information

I have a lot of respect for some of Flash's posts but he is an ****nal supporter :p  so at times his judgement will be slightly suspect. ****nal being a French team and all :p :p

Edit.
Just read Flashes comments about Nano paint, I have spoken to one American on this very issue last year, his car was very badly damaged, and we used the nano reference to help tip the balance, there insurance write-off policy is very different to ours. Do you know if you have this paint\top coat?
Take care,
John

Edit: John - I have no "bee under my bonnet" as Mobilo have and are carrying out all the bodywork corrosion repairs on our 3x vehicles BUT come 3 years time it is a "gamble/lottery" IF DC will authorise any repairs to the affected panels if they were to corrode/rust either as a result of previous Mobilo work after 3 years or work carried out by a MB approved bodyshop in relation to an accident....!!!

Your're a very NICE guy John and I fully respect you alot but BUT still stand my posts/threads...

Thanks John,
Hope you feel better now!
I am not starry eyed when it comes to MB service (I have a Vito that has had more injectors than tyres!), but praise where praise is due and MB service is improving, and I will tell it as I find it.
I have absloutly no understanding of the word 'football' Where does in fit in the car?

In joke for those of us with a sense of humour. I consider Flash a friend, but his judgement is flawed by supporting ****nal. :) Apart from that he is a good bloke.

We\I like to think we can have a sense of humour

John

Good news, bad news ...again.

Good news! I have at last got my E class back after a bus attacked it and the repairs look very good. The worst fault I could find was a slight black mark on the light carpets. The paint looks factory finish in bright sunlight.
Bad news. I have not been at home for three weeks so had to wait for my wife to bring the car to me this weekend.
Good news! I had to use her new SLK while all the hot and sunny weather was with us!
Bad news! She has just fallen over and broken a finger!
Good news! My current project of a 300+mph diesel car is fit and well and is ready to go record hunting on the Bonneville salt flats....more 18hour days!

Do not accept this, but be very polite about it. The last time our car was serviced it came back with a greasy scuff mark on the cloth door sill thingie. I phoned the service department and also e-mailed a picture. They offered to come and collect the car and re-valet it. I thanked them but stated we would attempt to remove it, so they sent a driver down with a full valetting kit!!!

Is that the JCB thingy?

I'm a bit pressed for time at the moment, but if you have interest in the JCB thingy then try www.jcbdieselmax.com for all the latest info and pix.

Good for you Mactech! I saw that thing (or possibly a mock up) at Goodwood this year and I was highly impressed by both the design and the obvious amount of engineering talent that went into it. British too!

Consider my virtual hat doffed!

Excellent.

I was vaguely interested in this, but now there's 'personal interest' so to speak, I'll try and keep more up to date. Is the idea behind this venture to try to promote the JCB truck thingy they were talking about in Autocar last week? I mean I can't see that your average builder is interested in a 300 mph digger!

Best of luck - now Audi has got the performance diesel thing rolling, just make sure you blow them into the weeds!
