Someone once described an occasion as 'watching their dreaded mother-in-law driving their new car over a cliff'. The only emotion after 7 years of SL ownership was one of relief. It had all the usual problems and some unusual ones. The final straw was an interior door handle breaking off in my hand. In over 40 years of motoring with many different makes, that was a first. A
C220 CDI was one my shopping list but 5 days trial ended that - bland, unengaging are words that come to mind. MB's low value didn't help. The SL replacement? A BMW 320 D Sport Auto. Have driven it for a while, I am starting to agree with Honest John when he said 'it was the best real world car he had ever used'. The 8 speed gearbox is a dream, 65 mpg is easily achievable, £30 road tax and the 5 years free service package which is a bargain (MB-pl note) I still have one foot in the MB camp -a ML -but the question is -for how long.

After three out of four MBs being troublesome beasts, I get you! I am very unlikely to "own" an MB again. Leasing a new one is the only way to have an MB worry free IMO! :)

I must say that I have to agree with all that has been said about the total relief when you finally see your beloved moneypit being driven off by someone else, but as yet I do not speak from experience only hearsay, but you never know what is around the next corner.I have ploughed so much folding stuff into my SL recently that whoever does eventually drive it away should have more trouble free motoring than I had. These days I just open the garage look at it, polish it maybe and then close the door .
