Goodyear F1 GSD 3

Its just you, you confused prat.

I didnt say i found them crap at all in any of the sentences i wrote, ok i said "from the previous falken rubbish", thats because i personally think the eagle f1's had better grip and performance characterisitcs than the falkens.

Where did i say it gave me twice the mileage? Another instance of you being a picky pathetic moron.

Sorry to go off, but i've seen you do this many times before needlessly and you seem to think you are quite intelligent when in true fact you aren't. Thank you.

Woa!

Steady on Adam, Crockers does have a point, I was confused myself by your posts and I'm sure others were too.

anybody want any popcorn? :D

And you say i'm bad when i get back from the pub Andy !! ;)

Didnt mean to confuse anyone, let me just conclude what i want to say to avoid any further speculation/confusion:

I think eagle f1's are better then falkens when compared tyre to tyre in terms of performance (dont know about wear yet), but once you bring cost into the equation i personally wouldn't spend that extra money again because its only a 230K and i'd rather pay 60 + 60 + 94 +94 = £308 for falkens than 100 + 100 + 130 + 130 = £460 for eagles! (prices i paid for them at Camskill).

Hope that clears things up!

I've got these on my C-class at the moment, 225/40/18 on front and 245/35/18 on rear and i have to say that these tyres were a massive improvement over the falken rubbish i previously had. I was (almost) able to floor it round a roundabout in the dry and not lose traction (dont have traction control/asr).

To add, they are very grippy in the wet too and do have excellent aqua-planning. I can gear down and floor it very suddenly in the wet and i get no loss of traction. The only bad thing is, if you abuse them very often they dont last as long as other tyres, although i've had them for 5 months now and i still haven't felt their grip deteriorate at all.

I agree with Adam. I have used the Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 on my other cars, Astra 2L 16v and BMW 320D, and they have all been fine. I think its a very good tyre in the wet and dry, but not had that much use with them in the snow.

Well...I have a C270cdi estate with sport package fitted with Conti Sportcontact 2 on the rear and P6000 on the front.

Whilst I am not mightly keen on either type of tyre (they came with the car), I have been impressed by the way the car drives and handles on the snow....I feel very secure, the traction control gives high levels of traction when needed and the suspension set up makes the car very easy to drive and control....I did not have this level of control from my previous BMW 3 series.

Sorry - let me see if I have this right - you found them crap - don't last long - but will buy them again cos they're cheap........Surely if the other tyres give you twice the mileage at twice the price there is no difference in costs...

Or is just me who is confused at the logic ??

I obviously cant take back what i just said previously in the thread but i just want to apologise for unnecessarily losing my cool. I'm not having an amazing day and i wrongfully took out on you. :o

GSD3 are a fantastic tyre, but like the OP when I used them in the snow they were utterly useless. I could pull away reasonably well but steering and braking were laughably bad, not a hope of making it anywhere safely.

If it snows badly and gets compacted, the car stays indoors.

Dave!

TBH, most "summer" tyres are piss-poor in snow - I'm fairly sure that tread depth plays a bigger part in perceived grip than their pattern (and to a certain extent, compound - see winter tyres, generalisation etc etc)

Worth remembering the F1 GSD 3 is now obsolete and replaced by the F1 asymmetric. It's still available of course so axle mixing doesn't occur.
The asymmetric scores highly in the two German magazine tests I've seen.
A good choice along with the consistent all-rounder the Continental Premium Contact II.
The GSD 3 is now well behind in ride quality, noise and rolling efficiency.Good in the wet but the game has have moved on.

As for the Pirrelli P6000, this tyre really is out of the dark ages. It was tested over 10 years ago in Autocar magazine and finished mid pack. The other tyres in that test have long gone so it's surprising the P6000 is still so common. Avoid.

i have a set of goodyear gsd3 on my clk and am loving the grip, going up my drive is easy in the snow, but the audi a3 just spins and that has falkens on it! i also have the gsd3's on my w203 but can test it out on them as its in for repair.
