Google maps directions to Command

Just come accross this forum thread in slkworld that others may be interested in.

Saving a Google Maps route (not destination) to Comand Navigation - Mercedes Benz SLK Forum

I have managed to load into command some routes, but, have not yet tested on the road.

You can create a route on Google Maps and then send to Mercedes Me. When you next get in the car it pops up as a destination. Is this the same? It looks a little more complicated than it needs to be.

The first generation of COMAND Online (NTG4.5) had the option of sending complete routes from Google Maps to COMAND.

However, this functionally was removed from NTG4.5/NTG4.7 in 2015 (along with Google Street View and the Facebook app) so it is no longer possible to send anything from Google Maps to COMAND NTG4.5/NTG4.7.

What you can still do is use www.here.com on a PC or laptop (but not smartphone app) to mark a destination (but not a complete route) and send it to the car.

I don't know where things stand with later versions of COMAND (NTG5*x).

I don't have send to Mercedes me so I am thinking this will enable me to create scenic routes on the PC and transfer to car on a sd card.

Having now done it a few times it's not that complicated and it gives me the opportunity to change a simple A to B route to a more personalised one.

That's a very good idea.

Once you have access to GPX editing software you can do all sort of things with your navigation system...

I did something similar with Becker Map Pilot at the time, i.e. used 3rd party GPX editor to create my Favourites list then copied it to the BMP SD-Card over USB (surprisingly BMP Manager software does not have the option of editing the Favourites list from the PC).

Obviously COMAND can not be removed from the car hence use of SD-Card.

I use it. - very helpful for planning scenic drives. Mercedes Me used to have something similar but crap which now seems t have been disabled. Maybe the March update will have something.

Tried a small local route produced by Google Maps in Command and it worked.

I use my car for pleasure only and love finding out of the way routes in the dales and lakes.

When I had my bike I would pore over maps finding interesting looking roads to ride and avoid motorways.

I can now do this in Google Maps.
