i appear to have mixed two different anti freeze types resulting in a chemical reaction (never heard of this before)??instead of anti freeze i now have green slime-- was told to flush out system i have now done this twice to no avail (water pressure wont dilute it) does anyone know what will break this gunge down ? regards ken -- hoping to do it this weekend

Try a radiator flush product. This sounds a bit strange, are you sure it's not oil contamination?

Quite normal after mixing two different products. Use Holts RadFlush. Will cure all of your green gunge woes!

Best thing to do to verify if the head gasket is causing this emulsion is to flush the system and fill with nothing but water and running for a nice long run. After flushing again and topping up with a coolant mix, look for the gunge again. Use a non coloured AF solution, this way you will know that the old antifreeze has gone - but will also show Mayonaise in the water if the head gasket is gone.

Was one of the antifreezes coloured Blue - and the other Yellow?
If the Green gunk oily at all? Do you loose oil from your engine?
Does the Green gunk smell of petrol / diesel?

Mercedes sell a product to get rid of oil contamination in coolant.

You need to use it because the effect of oil will make the hoses go soft and eventually burst.

Obviously you need to fix the initial problem.

Part number is 001 986 21 71

The heater must be on and running to clear oil from the heater core.

Regards

thanks all -local garage says its because i mixed two different anti freezes. have got no head gasket probs. saw the two pack in halfords on my way home tonight but have bought bars flush so will try that tomorrrow- says it removes sludge??-

What antifreezes did you mix to get that reaction. I've never had any reaction but always perform a complete change and keep some for topping up.
