dreams are meant to be fulfilled!!!

my licence is completely kosher, and clean. I think the loading is all down to the area. but that's the price of having the Thames outside your balcony ;)

Crikeys me,
If they put an excess on for a view of the Thames!!!!!! Whatever you do, DO NOT tell our insurance company of the view we have. :)

Looks like I'm doing ok with Tesco's. Mine is group 19 I think, and with one accident (no claim) 4Years protected no claims comes out at £1200. I was 25 at the time, now 26 :D

I've got my SL60 (129) insured with Admiral. Its not "cheap" at about £850 but what surprised me was that there was virtually no difference between what I pay on the SL60 and what I paid for my previous SL320, even though the SL60 is almost twice as powerful.
From your details, it must be the postcode that knackers you. I'm 31 with full NCB and have Class 1 business use as I use it for work to visit clients.

And the winner is ...

Today, I tried:

8. Admiral
9. Bell Direct (same group as above but slightly cheaper
10. confused.com
11. GSI (recommended by rirhill)
12. Liverpool Victoria
13. A Plan (recommended by mozzer)

A Plan (Darren 01635 874646 -- very helpful and very good, deals with high insurance group cars all the time) got me a quote of £1049 which I have gone ahead with :D :D

£300 excess. Courtesy Car. Tracker not required. Protected NCD. SDP only, no commuting and no business use. Legal Cover etc etc. Underwritten by Marker Study (I think). My mate's Maserati Spyder is also insured with them, as it turns out.

So, thanks all for your thoughts and suggestions, and thanks especially to mozzer for his suggestion.

Am so glad I no longer have to repeat my address, dob etc etc for another year. What a tedious process.

All I am waiting for now is the car and Friday :bannana:   :bannana:

Thanks again,
SEAN

Tried:

1. elephant
2. first alternative
3. directline
4. adrian flux
5. tesco
6. moneysupermarket
7. confused.com (web site does not work, and has not for the last 24 hours)

And best so far is elephant at £1200. All others were more expensive and required trackers.

Totally agree, our car was £401 but knocked down to £361, but the CL65AMG was only £474. all with the usual NCP, Legal advice and gauranteed hire car. Just £113 between a 320CDI and an absolute flying machine.

This is how I suck my eggs...

I am sure you all know this stuff, but just thought I would share just in case :

A Plan recommended to me that the insured value of the car should be reduced each year with depreciation - no point over declaring your car's value when they won't pay out against it all anyway.

I can't remember whether A Plan told me this or not, but IIRC, if you have a car that is worth £10k and you say its worth £12k, in the event of a write off the insurance company would value the car at £10k, take the £2k over insurance off the policy before they do anything else, so in effect only pay out to a maximum of £8k - not sure if this is true, but it definitely drove home the point for me. Anyone on here know the facts around this ?

Also, IMHO if you have more than one car in your name and can drive one in the evnt of crashing the other, you should cancel the courtesy car options on your policy, as this can make a difference to your premium. This may only be a couple of pounds, but they are your couple of pounds then, to do with what you will :D I'm almost certain I saved about £70 doing this for my two.

Cheers

More praise for A-Plan

I thought I may as well tack onto this thread.....

Last year, the most competitive insurer for me was Elephant. I require fully comp cover, protected no claims, legal cover and guranteed courtesy car.

Then 25 yrs, good postcode, car garaged, no cliams or points my Premium was £550.

This included declaring my 17" AMG's which made the premium rise from £500 to £550 I believe.

A fair rate I thought.

However throughout this year I have added my AMG backbox and had the ECU remapped (0 BHP increase). Adding these mods to the policy has not been too bad as mid term I have not paid the full wack for 12 months cover. However, I am expecting my renewal when it comes in a few weeks time to not be too hot.

Calling around the usual peoiple who have always been cheap for me (and it really varies individual to individual) I was getting a little worried about the problems caused by having mods.

Insurers are more than happy to quote, but with silly prices.

Examples:

Privilege:

Standard Car: £481 :D
Mods Decalred: £777 :(

Tesco:

Standard Car: £580 (£200 excess)
Mods Declared: £940 (£350 excess)

And so it goes on, smae for all the big discount insureres.

I tried HIC, who specialise in modded cars (they insure Koolvin). £970. Their cover did include non competetive tracks days though :D

So the mainstream insurers are expensive and so are those who "specilise" in modded cars

Finally, I started calling brokers and thanks to Mozzer and Sean, A-Plan.

After a sensible chat with someone in the know, they called me back 2 hours later.

ECU remap, exhaust backbox and alloyes declared, fully comp, protected, guranteed courtesy car, 30 days european cover £589 with a £250 excess. Also in the brokers words "the insurer is mod friendly, so any future mods you should be ok".

Doubting very much I will beat this, nor will Elephant with their renewal, I 'll be signing up later this month.

Just waiting for a call back from Chris Knott.

Even if they are not so good on price, I can vouch for their friendly and knowedgable service.

When detailing my mods:

Me: .....ECU remap
Clerk: What's the power gain?
Me: None.
Clerk. None? <pause> Ah, you have to change the pulleys on those to increase boost don't you. OK.

<conversation carries on>

I was stunned at his knowledge at least!!

Fingers crossed on the price!! And he didn't ask how much the alloys are worth which i have figured is a good sign. All the companies that ask that ad the figure you tell them onto your annual premiuim!!

directline asked me about the value of the AMG rims but I explained that the increase in value was about £400 in total. You're not insuring the tyres as well are you, that's like insuring the brake pads, and you can only have 4 wheels mounted on the car at once so you can't take the value of the stock wheels into account! :)

Ahh shame, Chris Knott couldn't cut it on price.

I have had this discussion with many insurers when they ask the value. I normally reply, with "you mean the difference in value between the new wheels and the stock ones?" to which they reply no, the total value

Dumb dumbs.

I am happy wit the A-Plan quote, it's just with no brand insurer I have never heard of (Marker Study - Registered office in Gibraltar) and a courtesy car is not 100% guranteed only if available "but we've never had a problem with one not being available sir".

Have you had your insurance schedule and Certificate through yet?

Does it all look official and efficient enough?

I have a temporary cover note, waiting for certificate to come through.

A Plan has been around for a long time -- I remember them from 15 years ago, so I am banking on the assumption that they do not sell 'duff' insurance. Otherwise, A Plan will have run into problems with the insurance regulators by now.

My mates Maserati is also insured with A Plan .. checking to see who the insurer is.

Dumb dumbs.
So they would happily pay for a replacement car AND a brand new set of AMG rims to go with it? No they wouldn't.

A Plan

Gonna call Darren now - I should be on commission :p :p :p

Well, all credit to Elephant. Their renewal has come in at £655. Considering £27 of this is for a guaranteed hire vehicle, which the A-Plan quote does not include, I shall be staying with Elephant and not even quibbling over the quote.

They must have been confident as they have already sent through the insurance certificate!

Nice to be pleasantly surprised for once! :D

I seriously looked at a S55L AMG until I got to the quote stage....current car a S320CDi coming in at £500 / year. S55L AMG they wanted £2k for (cheapest quote) and I live in the wilds of Scotland. Obviously thought the highland bulls might hotwire it and tear off up the road (four up) looking for heifers!

You could always do third party, fire and theft if you trust yourself ! LOL  Or volunteer for a large excess ?
