Gummi Pflege on rubber trims/seals

I've ordered a bottle of this to try , my Pana roof and doors can creak like mad in colder weather, if it's any good ,I'll soon find out.

The trouble with silicone oil and krytox is they are water insoluble, so get it on the glass, either by mis-application or smearing from the rubber, you will have streaks for weeks...

Krytox never comes (needs a special solvent to be removed) off which is why it is so good. I used some on my garage (electric) door side seals (external) that were grabbing. It was probably 3 or 4 years ago now & still working and exposed to the elements.

Worked for many years on my S200O seals. The rubber stayed supple and no leaks.
But hey, your money, your choice.
What MB supply is actually Krytox.

The problem on the folding roof is there is rubber sliding past rubber or another surface in some places. I used GF (still have a bottle) for 4 years on my R172 SLK350. The rubber had to be cleaned everytime I re-applied it and the rubber ‘grabbing' always resumed after a short time. I’ve only had to apply the Krytox once since I had it but will probably re-do all the seals this spring.

Just to make it clear, Gummi pflege is German for..............Rubber care, it is not a brand or special formulation.
So Liqui Moly Gummi pflege is just Liqui Moly rubber care and Wuerth Gummi pflege is Wuerth rubber care.
Just saying🙂

So autoglym rubber care is the same . Sigh . 😔 And I thought gummi pledge was something special. Lesson learnt.

OK I have read this thread with interest as i am wanting to apply something to the rubber seals on my aged SL 500, And two people outside of this forum have recommended using Silicon oil ? Is this not a good thing to do?

I have a VW Eos as well as my Merc and although Krytox (PFPE) is expensive it last a long time and is the only VW recommended lubricant to use on rubber seals. Some on the Eos forum use Gummi Pfledge but NEVER use silicone.
Hi There,

I have been researching the Krytox PFPE on the Krytox website, They state:

"Krytox™ GPL greases are synthetic perfluoropolyether- (PFPE-) based oil, thickened with polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) powder to create a white, nontoxic grease that provides excellent lubrication in demanding applications. The PTFE thickener forms a barrier that keeps base oil at the friction contact points for long-term lubrication without requiring complicated oil recirculation systems."

Does this mean that there will be a white smear on the Rubber seals?

No. You need the Krytox GP 105 which is colourless liquid (fairly runny). Look at post #130.

Back when I had my Honda S2000, everyone swore by Shin-Etsu for the rubber seals, of which there were many. Investigated this and found that Shin-Etsu, recommended by Honda, was nothing more than silicon lubricant as used by divers to lubricate wet suit zips. Also used in spray form in electronics. This is available online at a fraction of the price of branded products and served me well for the 10 years of S2000 ownership.
Agree used same on my s2000 seals also and served me well in 5 years ownership. Had some left over when Honda was sold and continue to use it to good effect.

I’m beginning to wonder if the solution to wind noise on mine is the rubber seals and not the expensive acoustic glass that MB insist is the solution (does glass really become noisy after 6 years of peace and quiet?) but where can you buy Krytox GP105 at sensible prices and know it is Krytox. Thanks

Pillar less doors ?

No, no it’s a saloon. there‘s been loud wind noise at the top of the front nearside door since the summer. MB taped up all the door and window edges (I actually did the same) and insisted it needed acoustic glass at £900. My argument is it’s never been noisy before. There’s no suggestion it is the rubber seals because they were taped up but treating them is the one thing that hasn’t been tried and reading this thread through I just wonder if we are missing the obvious.

Ebay. Supplier sells bottles as small as 5ml, which makes a good cheap trial!

You'd find out if you fit a new door seal . Why didn't mb try a new one on. No noise then that's your issue and cure !

Ok - That is certainly good enough to take a punt! I was thinking of trying the silicon on the less intricate seal, and use this Krytox on the roof seals.

Good thread

I've used Lidl silicone sprays twice a year and eventually the noises return, more in the winter tbh than summer.

No need for 2 products. Krytox goes a loooooong way. It needs to be very sparingly applied & don’t get it where you don’t want it. It is almost impossible to remove without a special solvent. However will do no harm to paint leather etc and is pretty much invisible.

If you find it cheap (less that about £40 for a small bottle) it will be fake. The UK importers will sell directly to you.
