My car was factory supplied with Audio 20 tape drive and cd changer and nokia phone system. Date of delivery is 14/02/03. How do I find out if I have separate audio gateway. There is fiberoptic connector in the boot and also mounting bracket for navigation.

Is there a control unit in that mounting bracket, whats the part number of it (if its there) ?
Theres a very incomplete list of AGW part numbers in my comand/comand-aps part numbers document at http://www.mercupgrades.com

Well there is a black box on top

but I thought that its parktronic. Fiber connectors plugs into something under the left back pillar, don't know what since I can't see it.

Regards

And if I unplug fiber from 'something' radio doesn't work anymore.

The phone controller and the AGW will both be in the back there. The AGW is a bit out of site, and from memory the phone system electronics is a lot more visible
- so you should be able to find 2 fibre connections (one to each back there)

The AGW has a load of cooling fins on it, the phone system does not

Owe you a driink

Found it. that was what fiber was plugged into. When you next in (north) london pm me as I owe you a drink . Are there any aditional cable / aerials needed?

Regards,

I presume you are installing Comand-APS and Navigation ..

Check that the wiring loom for Navigation is there (in thr trunk), I've never done APS retrofit in an E class ... but I imagine you will also need to change the roof aerial to one with GPS receiver , and if the fibre is there in the boot will have to reconfigure it to add that pair to the loop (which I think is done in the right hand door sill duct, but again i'm not quite sure)

If you find the wiring loom to plug into the DVD nav unit in the boot, there will be a antenna cable going to the roof - (probably with a blue fakra plug on it), and if you put a multimeter on it, and it is not open circuit, (I guess it will be a few hundred ohms) then the GPS aerial is already there - if not, you'll have to change the antenna to one that includes GPS ..

Cheers

PS, can you take some photos of the dismantled trunk, and the AGW , brackets etc and send them me ?

I was going to update my 'retrofiting comand-aps to A/B class' into a generic guide with seperate sections for different vehicles, much like my retrofitting comand guide - see http://www.mercupgrades.com

Will do

... Take pictures as sooon as rain stops. will pm you with the location.

Thanks

You need to try and find if it has the DVD nav wiring loom in it, if it has there will be a connector with the orange fibres and some more wires somewhere down there, and a coax for GPS , probably with a blue plug on it ..

If not, you have some more dismanteling to do to install it :-) Also not all AGW's work with all things, so there is a chance your AGW wont work with COMAND ...

Cheers
Richard

The only fiber is already connected to agw. you can see on the picture that it has red light on one of the connectors. I know that I don't have gps aerial. Does aerial plugs straight into dvd computer ? Also if i take agw out can I check if its going ot work by part number ?

Regards
