As it's winter, plan on changing me dipped headlights. The helpful chap at Halford recommended these bulbs-
H7 12 V 55W PX26D/477.
It says they are 200% brighter, is that the truth? If legal, happy to buy them for my Mercedes C class

Osram nightbreakers +200 or the Phillips +200 make a big difference, well worth changing for the cost involved .

Thanks, are the above two better than the H7?

Am avut pe un vw t-roc Osram H7 Night Breaker ++220%,12V,55W si erau mai bune decat becurile originale. Problema la ele este ca se ard repede, au tinut mai putin de un an.

It's not altogether clear from your post what brand of bulb Halfords recommended (H7 is the format of the bulb, not the brand), but as W1ghty says, any of the Philips/Osram/Ring upgrade options are a good choice .

I had Osram H7 Night Breaker ++220%, 12V, 55W on a vw t-roc and they were better than the original bulbs. The problem with them is that they burn quickly, they lasted less than a year

The 200% brighter is misleading. Aftermarket bulbs are not permitted to put out 200% more lumens, instead they provide whiter light by burning the filament hotter and with more precise tolerances they control the beam pattern better. The best way to choose an aftermarket bulb is to read the reviews produced by Autoexpress who take measurements of the beam. One thing that always applies is the brighter the bulb, the shorter it's lifespan so if you want the best expect to replace them more often. Look at the data sheets on the manufacturers web site, the Osram bulbs that I have always used list the expected life of their various offerings.

Same here.

I had Osram NightBreaker Ultimate that didn't last very long.

I then opted for the Osram NightBreaker Silver (it's the 'long life' variant of the NightBreaket range) which aren't as bright as their top models, but still a massive improvement over the standard fitment. Never had to change a bulb in the 5 years that I had the car.

I guess it's obvious that the brighter it burns, the shorter it lasts.

Oh, and you want to buy 4 bulbs - for the high beam as well.

I put standard Osram NightBreakers in the Vito but kept having to replace them so reverted to standard bulbs. Can't say I've noticed a big difference - anything looks like a candle compared to the adaptive matrix LEDs in the W205 :D

H7 is the fitment type.

You may find that your dipped beam and high beam are different fittings. Possibly H7 and H1

Be aware that the increased output bulbs will have a shorter life.

I am struggling at night, specially in winter and the current job in South Wales takes me through all those country roads at night

So would gladly trade shorter lifespan for better night vision

If there was one choice of brighter light vs longevity, which one would you chose?

Osram night breaker ultimate?

Happy to even change it every 6 months

Just took the current one out ,
also seems like an H7 bosch

I chose these:

It's 'only' +100%, but it was good enough for me. Never needed to repelace them.

The 220 (if you don't care about longevity)
Clicked on them and three options popped up!!! H 4-7-11.... spoilt for choice now, doh
