H7 dipped light bulbs 200% brighter

PS, remember, don't touch the glass when you refit them. Oil from you skin will cause a hotspot on the bulb and probably cause it to fail prematurely.

100%

As an aside I put Osram upgrade bulbs in my SL 20+ years ago and have never needed to replace them (because it's hardly ever driven in the dark :D).

You need to establish the exact fitting for your vehicle. . As said, some use H7 for both dip and main beam, some are H7 and H1 or H4.

In some countries in Europe, osram LEDs installed instead of halogen bulbs are legal. I don't know if they are legal in the UK

LED bulbs are not legal in the UK unless fitted as standard by the manufacturer.

Many people do fit them however.

I am struggling at night, specially in winter and the current job in South Wales takes me through all those country roads at night

So would gladly trade shorter lifespan for better night vision

If there was one choice of brighter light vs longevity, which one would you chose?

Osram night breaker ultimate?

Happy to even change it every 6 months
Let's hope the bumper doesn't have to come off, plus half of the air filter and battery!

DOH — says Homer
Ive used both h7 nighbreakers and Phillips racing vision 200 . The Phillips were noticeably brighter and shone further. I didn't change the high beam bulbs, just the dipped , if you can't see with standard bulb main beams on , you shouldn't really be driving TBF.

While some countries have approved the best LED replacement bulbs such as Philips and Osram, they are not legal in the UK.

It's not an issue of how good the beam pattern is because these top quality LEDs have an excellent beam pattern. It's the way the law is written.

The Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989, 14.—(1) states that no filament lamp other than the one referred to in the Designation of Approval Marks Regulations can be fitted to any lamp that is required to be marked with an approval mark on a motor vehicle first used on or after April 1, 1986,

What the regulation is saying is a light unit must use only the filament lamp that was used when it obtained that approval. Also even if they seem an innocuous use of LEDs ,the regulation also seems to apply to the tail light, stop light and indicators if they have an approval mark.

The MOT manual quotes the same regulation but I suspect in practice the MOT testers don't concern themselves with checking bulbs in tail lights and indicators. They would be more likely to fail a headlight if they can see it contains an LED even if the beam pattern passes muster.

Thanks a ton
Just bought it on Amazon
Bit perplexed, as it would arrive only on the 16th. Amazon is usually next day
Must be from the continent?
No reason to assume that. Not all of Amazon stock is held in their fulfillment centres.

Also, it depends where you are and when you order.

Some parts of the UK take a little longer. I can order things for delivery to us in Wiltshire for the next day but the same item delivered to the Norfolk house can be two days 🙄

It also depends if it's in Amazon's stock, or sold by a third-party seller.
