Hair in my W124 exhaust?

Hello,

After a spirited run in my T124 E280 yesterday I noticed something hanging from the exhaust. When I looked closer I noticed that what looks and feels like hair was coming out of the tail pipe. I pulled it away (about 30 cm long piece and say 40 strands) and there seems to be more up there.
Has anyone any idea what this is or am I trapped in a Stephen King novel and its the hair of a victorian ghost?
Thanks
Toby

no it will be a small furry animal like the CAT :D ha ha :D

Ha ha.. sounds surreal..

It will be the silencer wadding coming out following your spirited driving...

Yep as Dieselman has said, it's wadding/packing from the exhaust silencer, happened to me many years ago - I remember looking at the car and thinking I must have run a cat or something over!

I think it may be fibreglass or similar?

I had a similar problem and replaced the section of exhaust only then to have the same problem with the new exhaust some months later. In my case petrol was entering the exhaust and causing the padding to degrade.

Check fuel mixture.

Note - this problem was not on a merc but assume the same.

Perhaps its a celebrity "rug" hiding from the paperazzi. Maybe the one seen on those well known TV shows:- 'Play Your Rug Right', 'The Generation Irish' and 'Strictly Come Syrup'.

Perhaps your silencer is a cat----alyser

Thanks chaps - wondered if that was the case (the wadding not all the murdering stuff!) as the exhaust has been a bit raspy for a while. Time to shop around for a rear silencer.

Hi,
It's called E glass fiber. Either a perforated tube or a baffle has failed (rusted through) and the fiber is being blown out of the box. This could cause a back presure issue with your vehicle, and could cause some damage. Often caused by a build up of water in the back box, common with short journeys.
