Halfords are selling off ex display and ex demo sat navs from only £5. I just bought a Garmin 4.3" with European mapping for £30.

Stock is patchy and more in the South than North but if you live around Coventry, Hinckley, Hartlepool or Airdrie there are some real bargains

checked over a monkeys worth from the link , none available nationwide for the ones I picked , bit of a lottery now maybe?
recently started using waze on the iphone , its free and really good

Thanks for the link. I managed to reserve a £205 tom tom for £30 and a NavMan for £5. Also reserved a touch screen Pioneer in dash dvd/cd player for £150

I bought a Tom Tom Live IQ with HD traffic with about £250 off.

Picking it up tomorrow so we'll see if Halfords honour the purchase or if there is a catch.

The whole Sat Nav industry is doomed since the rise of the Smart phone, for example my Nexus S comes with Google Navigator which offers street view on the main screen while navigating and features such as audable street names all for free.

It wont be long before you start seeing big named sat nav companies going bust and many other offers like this!

I find Google Navigator useless, it's OK for mainstream locations but try and get to a quarry in the sticks and it's bl*ody hopeless, also relies on a data connection which is also not always available in the wilds. Only phone apps worth considering for professional use are Garmin and TomTom

I'm with Spike I like keeping the 2 totally separate.

I also like having two seperate units.

I could use TomTom or Garmin on my phone but prefer the big screen on the Sat Nav I have.

Also with two brakets and chargers we just swap the unit easily if my wife needs it.

Can't find one in stock in the UK!

Can't find one in stock in the UK!

depends on which model you want some had no availability, there were loads of various ones last night with the highest availability in the areas in the OP

Nothing close enough to me.

In case it helps others:

Oxford Road Reading,
Winnersh nr Reading,
Priory Road High Wycombe and
Rickmansworth

all have the Mio Navman 470 Sat Nav - UK, ROI & Europe down from £260 to £50 at the moment.

Im off to Wales to pick mine up!

Found one I liked (a garmin) and reserved it... within a few minutes, halfords called me to say that they didn't actually have any in stock and the website is "wrong"...

Watford and Rickmansworth also have the Mio Navman 470 Sat Nav - but these are £50 normally from other places anyhow... so not really that much of a bargain...

If anyone wants one, I can pick-up on behalf of anyone around Uxbridge (all the way to Watford as I'm going there tonight) - I can then mail it over to you if you wish...

If anyone finds a garmin near them, please do let me know :)

Dash it! I was out and about yesterday and didn't see this. :(

Could have done with the TomTom Go530 for £10 - the one I bought for my daughter has just failed 18mths after the first one failed, also after 18mths. TomTom said hard luck!

I think that the satnav and car manufacturers will have problems in this area. I think it highly likely that almost all applications will migrate to smart phones where people carry their programs and data around with them. For example, phones will hold the map data, poi data, and will utilise gps/phone aerials built into the car as well as a large display. Smart phones will, using manufacturer applications, be capable of interrogating and diagnosing problems, relaying that information to the garage before the car arrives there for work. I envisage access to WIS, EPC and STAR via smart phone apps. All the technology exists, now it is down to access, ownership, licensing and how to make money out of it. Smart phones today are the precursors of "portable personal computers" or "portable storage". All this was very neatly envisaged by Frederick Pohl in his science fiction novel "the age of pussyfoot" in.......1969.

I put a reservation in last night, and the store called me now saying it is waiting as well. Supposed to be a display model so hopefully all good.
