Halfords selling off Sat Nav from £5 yes £5 !!!!

Well just been and picked mine up and as promised it was there all boxed and still had the price of £139.99 on it, but mine for the sum of £34.50 thats over £105 saving, bargain or what?

Bradford still have some Garmin and Navigon units left but to get them at the silly prices you have to use the reserve and collect web system and it's only one per customer  I tried for Arielmark but no joy but if you quick you might get one. Guy said most of the £5 ones went last night when the offer started.

Here's my bargain

Thanks for that but I dont think there is anything left that I want I have tried most of them but it comes up as no stock anywhere.:(

^ I was given a Garmin 1490T Europe for My Birthday at the start of January and I have always been a fan of TomTom.

However having used it, to be fiar its almost identical. It automatically switches to night settings (maybe the newer TT's do this), it has the Maps pre loaded, free updates for life also.

I've set mine so I have a Mercedes Benz logo splash screen when it switches on.

What I did change is the huge power cord, which I think has some sort of Traffic system built in (I'm a bloke and don't do instructions) I've changed it to a curly lead which imho is much neater :)

£35 sounds like a cracking deal

Well I had a call from halfords to say that there was in fact no stock of the one I reserved.

Oh well, at least they rang and I dint have a wasted trip.

^ Our two year old TT that broke didn't unless it was a setting we missed...

Anyway I quite like the Garmin, I probably would have chose a TT but this was a present so all good.

I will aim to get a new battery or at least try and fix the 'old' TT as it used to work fine.

The new one also has Bluetooth, Micro SD card slot to view pic?, lane assit and other features again probably on TT's?

None in Bromley, London, Brighton .... I need a sat nav, anyone willing to buy one for me and I'll pay you back somehow?

Sorry, my geography ain't too good but it's showing a TomTom Go950 in Thetford for £75. Includes USA mapping too, which would be useful for me, but I do know Thetford is a bit too far from Chester!

If you do buy it then call before you travel.

Ok, don't really want to go that far and also just want to spend £40 max...

My bargain is a lemon

Well got my sat nav home and couldn't get it off demo mode, rang Halfords who talked me through it but it still would not come off demo mode. Then rang Garmin Tech support gave them the serial number and then found out why it would not come off demo mode. It was a demo only unit had no internals or GPS chip set so obviously would not operate as a navigation device.

Took it back and the best offer was a refund

Apparently it's only the Garmin ones that are demo units the rest are really ex display functioning units.

Lesson learned and I should have stuck by the old adage if it is looks too good to be true it generally is.

SWMBO not happy and going to press Halfords further whilst I'm away

So well and truly peed off

On the upside, its battery life would have been amazing!

Did they not have another make of unit you could have? I though in reality they were all much of a muchness.

They did have other makes and offered me a refund against one but I had not done my homework so did not really know what had what features, so need to do that and then get another :thumb:

Thanks to your post, I reserved the same unit you did.

Got it home and was annoyed that it too was stuck on demo mode AND the number section wouldn't work when entering a post code. I thought the same, if it's too good to be true...

But went back to the store, guy said to delete demo folder using my pc, and now it can see satelites, and also after much hard work I managed to recalibrate the screen and now it's more responsive.

So if you can get it back, I would do so quick. Mine cost £35 and works great, now!

I tried all that before I took it back as there are plenty of posts on various forums about it, mine did not even have a file system and GPS chipset, there were 2 types the demo unit like mine with no gps and internals and genuine units with demo files you could delete, you were the lucky one but glad the post benefitted some people :thumb:

I find Google Navigator useless, it's OK for mainstream locations but try and get to a quarry in the sticks and it's bl*ody hopeless, also relies on a data connection which is also not always available in the wilds. Only phone apps worth considering for professional use are Garmin and TomTom

I'm with Spike I like keeping the 2 totally separate.

I agree, and its not just the wilds. The 3G internet connection is totally useless around here, even in the main town (Wrexham). You can forget features like Google maps and Navigation. Only work when in range of wifi network.

The Uxbridge halfords has a Garmin Nuvi 1240 for £50 - couldn't find it on the site, but they had it in stock today... also an RCA thing for £40 or so...
