Has anyone used "The SL Shop"

Awareness is heightened. It's up to the individual to decide for themselves whether that should result in increased caution. I'm not about to get myself embroiled in another forum slagging match hence,

Make of it what you will.

Well I'm afraid what I make of it is that someone is stirring. I have no idea why, perhaps you are a competitor. Anything is possible.

I take Spanner simply to mean don't assume anything simply because of the reputation , he is a tech and may well have come across a not so great car from them. My experience with good dealers is they miss things more than they should and don't go looking for known or expensive problems if they aren't obvious. A certain indy known to many here mentioned to me that he'd had a car from a certain specialist in the South who commands very high prices which was cosmetically in great condition but an absolute money pit for the buyer.

Get all expensive classic cars checked over independently if you can, too many issues if you don't!

90% of selling cars is fluff and buff. Sellers rarely perform work below the surface sheen. (some do).

That may be the case Charles. However Spanner has in the past named and shamed others about whom he has opinions. My point is about fairness. I have no knowledge whatsoever of the SL Shop but I think it's a bit rough that doubts should be spread about them without any details/proof being put on the table. If someone has information regarding shortcomings fair enough, but a generalised hint of wrongdoing is, imho, unfair. As the old saying goes: "Put up or shut up".

Perhaps there is a legal case ongoing , that commenting openly on forum would be unfair ?

Innuendo is never a good thing.

3. If Spanner had posted a negative comments (he didn't). I can see a repeat of previous postings immediately saying that he should deal direct and not via the forum.

Somebody asked a question. Spanner replied.

I read his reply in the same way the Charles Morgan did and have no issue with that.

Recently there was a post on here asking if anybody had any dealings with another trader. I said I had and to be careful. The OP of that post sent me a PM and asked if I would be happy to elaborate. I was and did via PM.

Good etiquette and everybody is happy.

There must be a reason 'cos he knows...

Well maybe he does. The point I think I have been trying to make is that I think it is unfair to hint at wrongdoing without substantiating it or at least saying, for example, "I cannot comment further as there is an ongoing legal dispute", if indeed that is the case. That, imvho would be ok. But, to cast doubt on an organisation without explaining why, is, again imvho, quite unfair. It may well be that Spanner has very good reason to write what he has, the simple fact is, we just don't know, we have not been told.

Were I a partner/director/worker/customer or in any way involved with The SL Shop, I would be exceeding miffed. I think it is unfair. I'm out.

And you are correct at every level.
The innuendo around this thread stinks, if you've something to say say it, and substantiate it, if not pipe down.

Interesting reading.

I don't see the same level of indignation when someone makes a sly comment about any of the repairers or parts suppliers on here.
We see much worse from people that have never dealt with such firms.

Why now?

I think I've always complimented, but when people do complain they give details, not "I know something you could do with knowing, but I'm keeping it to myself but if you only knew"
Really not on.

It happens in plenty of other threads, one only yesterday. You didn't get up in arms then, why not?

I suspect you want to try to force Spanner to reveal his issues. Obviously He's not going to do that.
