Im having the Aston fully detailed in June to show standard and he will "do" the CLS`s Obs black swirlfest afterwards as he says it willl look unbelievable (the CLS) because its such poor / soft / iffy paint it really benefits from a clay / wax / tlc / polish / love fest so I said ok I will pay for a day on the CLS paint (the Aston needs 4 full days for the whole package)

Have any of the esteemed readership of this forum engaged in detailing and what were the experiences ?

Knowing my luck on the day I pick it up from said detailer it will rain sand and bird poo ..........

Once done can I ever take it anywhere else again ? am I destined to be a slave to my swirlmarks and wash both cars myself for ever more  (im a lazy git, did the DB9 on sunday and needed a defib and an iron lung as well as some meguiers :p )

There are a few members here on their, I thought I was obsesive until I went on there. Thing is they show you before and after shots. Yes they are good but nothing really I could not do (on a silver car anyway) :)

Black is harder and a nightmare to keep clean I know been there. I guess a good detail will protect the paint depending on the millage for around 6 months.

I like cleaning our cars and so would never dream of paying someone to do it but thats just me, be sure to post pics before and after.

You can be sure all the pigeons will be watching as mr detail man drives off :)

He doesnt travel !! his unit is like an operating theatre and I was impressed - checked paint thickness and used a special "swirly" light to show me the swirls. To be honest if he was mobile I wouldnt be so ready to hand over the readies, a Ferrari he had just finished was truly truly on another planet

Thing is I couldnt do what he will do as I have no patience and Im a half do`er - i want the DB9 perfect and the CLS "nice"

7 mins out of Lpool city centre

My neighbour had his Quattro (red) detailed last summer. The chap was at it for four days solid, but OMG!! What a finish, truely stunning.

The owner takes it out on the occasional w/e never minds the weather, even drove it during the snow. It still looks fantastic!

How do they go about pricing a car. Do they have a set price? or does it go on what sort of detailing you have done etc and how much time is spent on the vehicle?
kurt.

yep, type of work done and how long it takes drastically changes the cost. I detail mine myself, a proper wash, polish and wax can take me 6 hours, claying adds even more time. PC polishing is on top of that and your into days.

 Thats too much for my liking, when would you get the time to drive it  But then again it must be worth it :)

I have now done this on two cars, using the same company.

I must say, their work is really impressve and I am having my classic car (my 22 yrs old Volvo) done as well.

Both my cars were black and although I thought my wash, wax and polish was good.... look at the pics.

All done by AutoFinesse, costs around £300-600 depending on what you want done. Inside costs about the same, but as mentioned by other members, have a look at www.detailingworld.co.uk and you see how an old car will look like brand new again!

That does look great, but I still think on a black car the difference is much greater.

How do you go on washing it after that, do the swirls come back over time.

Nice work though and it does look new :)

The Aston is 4 days for the entire car and every bit of it apart from underbody and arches off, Matts top offering was beyond my budget but for this detail work on 4 * 8 hour days for one person at £30 an hour inc all materials - he is so busy its mid June before I see him

Is he saying your CLS has iffy paint ?

If so i would take it back to the dealer .... or was it part of his sales pitch ;)

Can't honestly see the point. ok shout me down but is it really worth the cost?

Yes but very gradually if you apply the correct technique. Rinse with foam and leave to drain, rinse off, wash with mitt and clean suds (preferably 2 bucket method if that bothered), rinse, dry with leaf blower and finish with terry towel.

Always work front to back, no circles.

Well worth it

I got my black S class detailed fully at a cost of £200 and had some small stone chips filled in. The end result was amazing untill someone decided to wash it while I was out and now it's full of swirls again. Nevertheless; it looks absolutely gleaning especially at night time, well worth it. Why spend many tens of thousands on cars and skimp on a few hundred here and there. I'll post some pics soon.

I don't wish to be confrontational but do you have your servicing and repairs done by Mercedes or a reputable Indy at a fraction of the cost? Same as a wash and wax isnt it?

£600 for a glorified carwash???

There's one born everyday.

Bucket and sponge and spend the £598 on something useful...

When's your birthday ?

I'll get you one and you can treat the poor old A class ..

Angela feels sorry for it ... thinks i should rescue it when you want to get rid .

You've just bought a DB9 convertible, and you're going to take it off the road for four days in the (inevitably) short summer just to clean it to such a degree that you'll be afraid to take it out at any other time?!

Life's too short, surely...
