Having Your Car "Detailed"

Agree with above..

"I have learned it is that it is close to impossible to keep the car perfect if it is actually being used.
Everyone has to choose where on the line between concours and filthy is acceptable to them"

I like keeping ours clean and they generaly are very clean, however they are used. We have a little one, pram, walking gear, trips to tip, garden centre, b&Q etc all takes its toll...

Its a shame but as you say if you want to use your car its going to get the odd mark etc.

Yup! Cars are to be used and driven. Otherwise just get a shell and interior and keep polishing.

That's the sort of thing Gurcharn does day in and out. He's done more Veyrons than anyone else AFAIK.

Apparently hes off to Moncao next week to do a car out there.
So much for the credit crunch

Bloody stupid term "detailing" anyway, what the hell kind of word is that?

I can see the point if your car is in a museum or showroom, but not otherwise. Sure keep it clean and give it a good wax etc, but drive it and enjoy it!

Not very british imho! :)

In a way I agree with this sentiment.........but thats just my personal feeling on the subject.
Cars are to be enjoyed. And thats the key. Everybody extracts their pleasure in different ways.
Some like to tear up and down unbelieveably muddy fields in the name of motocross. Others enjoy popping 12 litre V8 lumps between two scaffold poles and rip up the tarmac at the Pod. Others simply like to cruise serenely in their TR5's on a sunny Sunday afternoon. And others extract pleasure from applying days of effort and work to acheive a car in better condition than those displayed at Pebble beach.
I dont claim to really understand that particular obsession, but if thats what turns you on, so be it. No sillier than grown men playing with train sets or dangling a hook on a piece of string in a river while its pouring with rain............
And thats pretty popular as well..........

Only my personal and very subjective opinion! Of course each to there own, I absolutely respect that people get "turned on" by different things.... But this just sounds like something that you would do when your 18 and just got your first 1.2 liter Saxo...

A good friend of mine has a DB9 which uses every day (its his only car) and finds the whole car worship thing very odd. I kind of share his view, if I had the money I would want to drive and enjoy the cars I owned rather than spending hours bonnet buffing.

But each to there own and I bet the guys that do this for a living do a fantastic job!
