Heated steering wheel

Ok, well another used car search has got me thinking about bits for my car.

I saw an R171 SLK advertised with a heated steering wheel. Now I'm pretty sure that the SLKs use the same steering wheel as my W203 coupe.

Questions:
How does the heated wheel work? Is there a seperate switch? Is it controlled via heated seats? I haven't been able to find any detailled interior pics of SLK that definitely has the option fitted.

Does anyone reckon I could swap mine with a heated one (assuming I could find one)? I have heated seats in my car if the makes a difference.

Fingers crossed!

Separate stalk just below the indicator/wiper switch. Works independently of seats. Ours has it fitted and its brilliant. A new wheel would be very expensive and I dont know if the necessary wiring loom is standard or if you would need more parts aswell.

Sounds like a bit of a non-starter from an upgrade point of view. Do you have any pics? Just curious as to what it looks like? Does it have various settings like the seats?

Just a single setting. Turn the end of the stalk and a red light shows in the end of stalk when its on. Turns off after 30mins automatically. Will try and take some pictures.

Just noticed this. The switch is on the end of the stalk that moves the steering wheel. Ours has the electric memory seat/steering wheel option. Dont know if the heated wheel can be had without this.

Have to disagree. Heated wheel is one of the best options on the car (and its got a lot). Can drive with roof down no matter how cold it is. Not even need gloves. Would thoroughly advise any new convertible buyer to go for it. Cost £100 when we ordered ours (probably more now).

A heated wheel is amazing , i really miss mine.

To retrofit this mod you will also need a a new steering wheel, airbag, new clockspring, switch and retrofit switch loom (if not switchable from the steering wheel itself) it's entirely possible.

Any ideas about the switch? Is it just with the electric wheel option? If not what is the switch like? Where does it fit? Any ideas?

you'd have to go looking at the SLK EPC to find the parts required to retrofit it, then you'd have to consider the conversion required for the 203 .... as koolvin said it should be entirely possible, however i'd be inclined to think as a retro fit, without a donor vehicle it's a non-starter on cost grounds
