hi all, i recently had my duo valve fixed in my e300 1998, as the heater wasnt working, now its losing a hell of a lot of water and ive checked around the water pump and all visible pipes for any damage of perishes but i can see nothing. when i traced where the coolant was leaking from it seems to be at the very back of the engine, under the windscreen almost in the centre, but im just looking where its falling rather than seeing any hole etc.. is there any handy cure for this or has it happened anyone before? please help as i constantly have to fill with water with no antifreeze and the frost is coming...

thanks for all your support on my other threads.:thumb:

This is odd, did you do the valves yourself?
There is a pipe running at the back of the engine going from the duo valves and connect passenger side to the engine block coolant.

Hi

I would defo try the steel pipe that runs across between the bulkhead and the engine. Someone on here had it fail before. They rust:confused:

hi, yes i done the duo valve myself, it was full of gunk and a rubber seal had perished, this was stopping the valves opening, there are 2 cones at the end of the valve inlet and they were obstructed, there is absolutely no leak there now but now that the water is passing freely the coolant has just been running out of the car and i cant see where but its definitely back of engine at the centre.

i cant remember noticing the steel pipe that was mentioned earlier but i must check it to. where exactly should i be looking as im a complete novice.. thanks

This is just attach to the valves end, just follow the pipes. I think this is for the coolant to run around if the valves are shut. But this is odd that it will start leaking after you did the valves?

right i got a few diagrams and im going to have a nosey again tomorrow, fingers crossed its that pipe...thanks and i will keep the thread updated with my findings..

right ive had a look and im 99% sure that the leak starts in the steel pipe, i can only see the ends of the pipe, when repairing/replacing this pipe how do i get to it? does all the plastics below the wiper under the bonnet have to come off or is there a handy way of exposing them? if someone has done this before a bit of insider info would really help..

does anyone know how i start to go about getting to the steel pipe for the heater directly behind the engine?

I think the wiper mech has to come out and the lower windscreen trims to expose.

i was hoping you wouldnt say that but if that what it takes....so be it.

No it is not difficult there are just quite a few pieces to remove - none of it difficult though. Follow the Haynes manual for access to the wiper motor - I assume thats the area you need to remove.

all sorted, removed perished part of pipe and replaced with heavy guage rubber hosing....job done, works well.

thanks lads
