Help: Command Button Broken

The one time you lend your car to 'her indoors' for the weekend and she comes back with the main cursor button broken. Just spoken to Merc and they advise that the complete Command unit needs replacing at a cost of circa £2k.

Obvious question is can anyone help or know of someone who can repair this. The car is a 2001 S-Class, the button I am refering to is the one we use to scroll through the menus and press in to select an item. i.e it's the round one!
It looks like the button was pressed too hard as it is firmly lodged in and it wont turn either clockwise or anti-clockwise. Tried to pull it out with a pair of long nosed pliers and this did not help, don't want to pull so hard that I damage the unit.

Any help appreciated.

Why dont u try the insurance route (worse scenario...?)

You could remove the unit and take it to a decent repair shop, the kind of place that fixes TVs and radios etc. Make sure you use one that has been personally recommended though...

Try Braybrooks on 0845 2600 292

Neil gets COMAND systems repaired for circa £350 however he may well be able to fix yours himself for less. Worth a phone call at least.

Good luck

if the worst comes to the worst, i'd recommend getting a replacmenet unit thru ebay @ approx £300-£400

i am sure in this case, it can be easily fixed by a decent audio/visual repairer. If you are brave, you could just try to take the cover off and attempt to pull it out yourself.

if you are also brave you could ask your wife how she managed to do it, atleast then once you are back from A&E you might have an idea if it is fixable or not.
