help help help 500sl cant get in boot

ok well i bought myself a project yesterday, removed the boot lock as it was sticky then promptly slamed the bootlid down :crazy:



so i have a hole were the lock is, i did find a bar going off to the left but its loose and doesnt do anything, how the hell am i going to get into the boot???? please help as ive been trying for over half an hour, i cant see any way in from the inside of car i take it theres no boot release leaver

If you can update your profile with model, year etc then maybe more chance of some help.

Does it not work from the key remotely? - how much of the mechanism did you remove?
 
sorry its a 1991 model, i removed the whole unit two 10 mm bolts so i have got a hole to get access but i cant see anywere to try get into, its just a normal key i have no buttons on it
 
does anyne know how the system works? is it electronic??? basicly i have a few plugs hanging out the boot lock hole and a small yellow pipe / hose for some reason that went to the lock, if its electronic surely i can run a live to something and open the boot????
mind you the batt is also dissconected
ive been trying with a wire coathanger for an hour no go i cannot get into this bootlid getting desperate now as i have a few hundred quids worth of snapon equipment in it too :(
 
the central locking on the R129 are vacuum operated.
 
oh i see, but surely it cant be a vacum pressure that pops the boot catch??
 
Give Ollie a ring at PCS if it is really urgent, alternatively I am sure he'll check into the thread later with some advice.
 
i really dont think theres a way in this its one solid built car, i think even if i had a crow bar id struggle.


really considered today leavering the boot open and then because its damaged breaking the car for parts lost my enthusiasm now how the fekin doodle pop am i going to get into this car, can you open the boot by remote etc on these 91 models? if thats so then surely i can run a live somewere and open it
 
If you have removed the lock itself, can you not look at that to see what it actually activates (it must push on some kind of release).

A little bit of me is surprised it even locks with no lock in place.

what happens is is theres a rod that sits inbetween the lock and mech as you would expect, but its not fixed at either end it slots in, so once lock removed it drops out. i had to resort to brutal tactics but its invisable and covered so happy days :)



righty now im in a good mood again were would i look to get a new roof or used one? or a skin if they do one ££££££££££????????????

They often come up on ebay, in fact there are a few 129's being broken on there at the mo. Failing that you can get new tops for a few hundred but recommend you get someone else to fit as they are a pig.
 
Does it need a new roof or does it just need windows ?

I had my windows replaced about 3 or 4 years ago for about £350 (requires rear section removing)but now I have decided the whole roof needs replacing albeit windows are still fine. This will probably next year and thats about an £800 job for a pattern roof fitted.

Fitting is possible DIY but I wouldnt consider it esp as there are guys out there a lot better at it than me
 
roofs shot to be honest, ive had someone i kinda know from poland expressing great intrest in the car as it sits, looks like it may well be going and shipped over there.


i suppose i could allways look for a more cleaner example to save all the work
