Hi all
My newly acquired CLS has non functioning contour seats (they are air controlled)
On collection today they started working again - this evening dead as a do do (both sides)
I would ideally like to tackle this myself to see if I can find the fault - where are my starting points?

Car is a 2005 cls55

Sounds like a leak, causing the pump to run on and time out. Best bet is get the codes read, too expensive to throw parts at it.

I can't hear anything audible - where is the pump located ?

The pump is in the boot, lefthand side behind the trim right behind the rear light.

STAR can test each seat bladder and the reservoir for leaks. You could check the pneumatic connections in the seat back and where the pipe enters each seat.

Thanks pal

You know where to go. At last it works intermittently so probably not a difficult (expensive) fix.

Creevy?
I was tempted to check out merc tech as he's more local to me and worked on the car previously ?

If it is the same pump as the CLK they are fairly easy to repair. A classic symptom is the motor not running, usually caused by a build up of carbon burn on the segments of the armature. A good clean and cutting back the insulation between the segments should sort it out.

I've used both...but couldn't warm to Merc Tech even though, as you know, he's very close to me. Everything cost £100...which latterly proved to be expensive when compared to Creevy who would hook up STAR and give a diagnosis...no hint of asking for money. Hence, he always got the work when required.

Decision made then ...

I am in the middle of trying to sort out my dynamic seats and today I discovered that one of the connection spigots on the controller in the passenger seat back had snapped off.
Not obvious on first inspection as all the pipes are held in place by one clip.

But is is easy to get to as the seat back is held on by two screws.

I also checked all the bladders in the seat and they all seem leak free. As is the pipework from the rear.

Am currently sticking the spigot back in place with "super steel" epoxy, which has always fixed many things in the past.

Hopefully the whole system will be leak free once this has set.

Will update once it is back in place.

Is this the little blighter ? In the boot beside sat nav drie in a foam casing

How could I test it ?

Cover popped off

Where is the reservoir ?

Higher up behind the same trim further forward, flattened plastic affair.

That's the monkey, have you powered it up to see if it runs ? If it wont run follow the advice in my earlier reply. Trust me I have done several of them.

If it runs intermittently it will benefit from being stripped and cleaned. A bit fiddly to do but with time and patience well worth the trouble. The basic problem is that the motor is only a three pole type and prone to carbon burn which causes them not to self start. On inspection you will see a carbon burn ring round the segments of the commutator, clean this off and it should be good to go.

Very helpful lads

The reservoir could also be a suspect

I've checked the switches at the seats and the piping behind the seats and can't see any visible breakages

My also be possible you have a leaking bladder, (Oh, Matron!!) or has this been checked already?
