Hi

I have a C180 manual (1997) which has been experiencing throttle problems. MY mechanic (friend) has cleaned the MAS (with high pressure air - the wire looks clean); the carb has been cleaned with carb cleaner and yesterday the fuel filter was replaced.

The problem i have is that on cold starts the engine turns over but then dies for the first couple of times. Once started and i pull away - the engine for the first few minutes (@ 2 miles) is very jerky and reluctant to accelerate. The revs dont seem to go above 2500.

Once the car is warm there do not seem to be any problems apart from a "whistling" noise that seems to come from a pipe located behind/under the glovebox on the passenger side. This only tends to come at high speeds 60mph+ (once the car is warm). The two problems are not related (as far as i know) since the whistling started in last summer (it is bearable this year).

Checking the forum many refer to similar probs and the Overload Voltage Protection relay. The mechanic mentioned some "temp cut off switch" which will not show up in any diagnostic probs.

Trying to keep costs down whilst a search for a replacement.

Any suggestions/advice/comments will be appreciated.

Could be a faulty temp sensor.

This sensor regulates the electronic choke of the engine as it runs through its warm up cycle, and as such yours could be experiencing a mixture that is too rich/too lean until the engine is up to temp.

I had this problem on my first Mercedes (a 190E) and the symptoms sound very similar to what you're experiencing.

Hope this helps!
