Hi guys,

Need some advise from some of you experianced guys, i have a w124 e220, took it for a minor service (ie - oil change and level checks), Noticed a very slight leak from the gearbox, asked the guys at the merc specialist, was told not to worry, its not at all to worry about, and when they checked the level from the gearbox oil dipstick, i noticed it was at 30, (for those who know, will notice there are markings from 30 - 80), i immediately asked if it needed topping up, they told me its fine, as car is cold, the level is right, meaning 30 - 80 is the temperature, so when car is warm it would rise to 80 - guys is this true???, please advise or were these guys just trying to pull a fast one with me - Your advise will be most appreciated, thanks.

What you have been told is right, no worries there then. But keep an eye on it if your leak is dripping. Mores to the point where is it leaking from?

IAN, Thanks mate for the prompt reply, That is a relief, luckily its not dripping, it was slightly wet looking at it from under the car, To be sure, now that you have mentioned it i will put a cardboard carton under it and see if any drops are noticed, once more thanks.
