Hi guys, can anyone advise please . . .

in another thread I mentioned about me putting unleaded in my diesel

I am now trying to drain out the unleaded. There are 2 tanks, one either side of the prop shaft.

Using an oil changing suction pump I have managed to drain one tank but still have one tank to empty. I had filled up and got just over 20 litres out and the guage now reads just under half.

Because my suction tube cannot get to the second tank I am having to resort to draining it from underneath. In the Haynes manual it shows where the drain plug is at the sender unit underneath and simply states that to drain the fuel just drain by removing the drain plug! - however this is where I am asking for anyones experience please . . .

I unscrewd the drain plug carefully, large aluminium type plug with allen socket, but nothing comes out - the plug smells of petrol though. I looked up into the hole and there is a white plastic piece at the top of the plug hole. (checked the other tank too and same situation) I am guessing that I could push up the plastic piece with eg a screwdriver and the fuel will then release  has anyone experienced draining the fuel please?

I am certain that the drainplug/sender unit/tank is the same for petrol versions too according to the Haynes manual.

so far - with great advice from zerocool, chhers mate, I managed to get more fuel out of the tank by pushing up the plastic caps, spring loaded, however I had obviously got most out near the level of these drains as there was only a couple of litres to come out.

The guage still reads just under half. I suspect that there is 3 or 4 inches of depth in each tank still in. The next step is to drain fully by removing the two sender units which is more of a pain.

This morning I called BP customer services as mentioned in another thread and will continue there . . .

I would have parked it in a certain district with the fuel door accidentally left open. Dry as a bone upon return.

Seriously, the fuel sender route is more productive.
