Car started skipping at the front a few weeks back - mainly upon start up and when surface is cold. Soon disappears but is a nightmare, on full lock the front wheels skip across the surface - is very noticable but as i say it seems to be fine after a few minutes.

Anyway, work was scheduled and carried out a several weeks ago, replacement of steering track rod ends etc. (not due to the problem, was something that had been booked for a while) My local & reliable MB specialist was puzzled by this as couldnt see anything that was wrong other than tyres (cheap Avon's fitted by previous owner) perhaps being the culprit. Got the tracking done, still not right.

So changed tyres yesterday to Michelin PS2's and it's got worse :wallbash:

Car seems planted and better now at speed following new tyres, although does seem to tramline a little more than before :dk:

All ideas will be very welcome please as I've drawn a blank? Plan to get tracking done again but other than that i am clueless...

I expect the lower arm castor bushes are split. Also you are running AMG's I see. This also does not help.

Your specialist should spot it easily by levering the arm over and looking at the bush....

I mean the wheels.

I tend to replace the arms as you get new camber bushes too.

They look like 18's so I doubt it. The increased width does put extra stress on the castor bushes.

I get this too on my 2013 C63. It only happens when its cold so especially in a morning when reversing on the drive. Can it be tyre related ?? My tyres are standard ...... Bridgestones on 19's :dk:

Scott, I haven't experienced this problem. I have Continentals on 19" wheels. I remember from a previous post you mentioned lack of grip with your tyres.

I imagine that not too many people will experience the same thing because I have to reverse on full lock, first thing in the morning, on my drive in order to pull out facing the right way. It clears up very quickly once the tyres are warm I.e. On a 90 degree turn after only 1.5 miles further on my journey. It doesn't happen then ? Dealer visit required I think :dk:

I did get the 'grip' issue sorted as I had the Quaife diff fitted which has improved my traction no end :thumb:

I get the same judder when reversing/turning outof my drive again only happens when cold/wet. Put it down to worn tyres (they always seem to be worn!)

But at the weekend i took the wifes ml out and it did the same soit must just be slippy as the ml's only done 2k miles so the tyres are like new.

One thing in common the both have lowpro tyres

My wife's B200 does this also, under warranty and no issues found

Mine (2012 c63 on 19" contis) doesn't do this, but previous cars I've had have done it (911, Boxster and 350z). Only when cold and it's down to the tyres being so cold they're not adhering to the road. If it doesn't happen after the tyres have been warmed, then it's definitely just the rubber compound not liking the cold weather.

My car does this on normal tyres every morning when reversing out onto a cold wet road.

Never thought anything about it.
