I was called out yesterday evening to help mate. Basically his battery was flat on his bike. I went to help him and jump started the bike. As he removed the Lead of the positive terminal on the battery the lead came off resulting in los of Power. I can only assume that when the car was serviced 3 weeks ago they forgot to tighten up the lead on that terminal. Since I reconnected it, It sometimes cuts out at traffic lights or where the revs drop sufficient enough for it to cut out.

Anyone have any ides?

Is it fuel injected?

perhaps low voltage due to poor battery and thus "fooling" the injection into doing things odd.

You need to re-set the throttle flap.

leave the ignition on for 20mins and that should cure it.

If you have further issues your fault codes need to be read first.

I may attach the Multiplexer I have just in case? I have been driving the car most of the day... But I'll give the Ignition on a try...

Cheers

I think Black 55 means ignition on, but engine off?

No I have been proved wrong! It's still doing the same thing, Stalling at traffic lights/junctions! I'm off to Oban in the next few days and I can't drive it like this!

I'll get out the Ahem"Carsoft Multiplexer" tomorrow and see if there are any codes and clear them... all because the battery lead came off:rolleyes:

Does your car have an OVP relay, if so check the fuse as this would be classed as reverse polarity so the relay would come into play.

Does the carsoft enable you to re-set the throttle flap?

Is that the relay with the fuse in the top, Located by the battery?

I'm not sure to be honest? But it may do, I have just found this thread:-http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=42727&highlight=Carsoft

By the way my car is 1994 c180

Just a suggestion while someone figures a solution, disconnect the battery for an hour, this sometimes resets things, worth a try.

I don’t know about that Piper but a lot of electronic devices reset themselves if the are disconnected for a while, no idea if this will do anything but will do no harm to try. You will have to reset the one touch windows and maybe radio codes afterwards.

I'll have a go and see what happens;)

Ran Carsoft and it came up with 2 faults! One was an Airbag 2/00?? And an AIRCO? I don't have Aircon? I don't have an ME Module fitted? So It's not reading any live data? I have checked all fuses, all seem OK. After deleting the error codes it started the car and test drove it. It's still has the fault?
I'm going to try the Ignition on method to see if that works, if not I'll disconect the battery for an hour!

Right, disconnected the battery for 2 hrs to discharge the ECU. It still had the fault. I figured that if it showed no fault codes it would be a mechanical/electrical fault somewhere... Anyway, Long story short, I checked all fuses and they where OK. Removed the induction pipework to the throttle body as I have been doing my home work with info on the site and read that sometime a dirty TB will give a similar symptom. I gave the throttle body a good clean and put it back together and low and behold, It's working fine again! No stalling at traffic lights or junctions and runs better that it did before....

I wish to thank everyone for their input with regards to help solving this problem... And will do my best and help others with the info and Knowleage learned from people on this excellent forum. If I can help I will....

Thanks again...

John
