Hi guys

Just bought my first Merc :) but.........we have a slight issue

I have a preface lift w204 c250 cdi sport with halogen headlights
I thought I would change them and install 35w 6000k hids. Then once installed walked round to the front and checked to see they were good and well but to my horror I realised the driver side was coming out the correct colour but passenger side was yellow colour.... Thought Maybe it was the hid bulb so got it replaced... Guess what same problem. Swapped ballast.... Same problem.swapped driver side hid bulb to passenger......same problem. I probably wouldn't of realised if I hadn't installed those hids :dk::wallbash::wallbash:

Reverted back to halogen bulbs instead of bulbs and again the passenger side was more yellow than driver.... Put a set of osram night breaker in and again same problem....

Rang Mercedes newcastle and they said it's not a common fault or heard off.... Has anyone got/had this fault??? I'm guessing it's a faulty projector lens that's causing the colour mismatch???? Think I'm gunna need a new headlight :(

My part number is A2048208561 but also found another online which is A2048200661 anyone know why??? Was thinking of trying the 2nd part number this time in case there was a faulty batch with 1st part no:wallbash:???? Help guys am desperate

Sorry for essay

Do main and dip work correctly on the 'yellow' side?
If they don't it sounds like a faulty earth.
Check the brown wire to make sure all looks ok.
If the above applies, and it still doesn't work, I will post how to test for a faulty earth with a testlight later.

Hi Ted,

As far as I know both the dipped and main work in the correct way but I will check in about 30 mins when I pop out. Brown wire??? I'm guessing that's the main adapter with all the different colour wires that plugs into headlight? Il trying pushing em all in. Seems quiet tight trying to pull it off to have a look at contacts.... Nobody else on any forum is having/had this issue so I hope it's a easy fix. I'm surprised previous owner didn't notice it but saying that unless u look directly at it for a few secs any normal person wouldn't notice it.... You help is appreciated Ted

It will be very obvious - the dim light will hardly change when you dip/main. The good light will clearly go from main to dip.

If it is this, it should be an easy (read 'cheap') fix ;)

Ted

Everything is plugged in where it should be and both dip and main beam work fine.... Faulty earth still somewhere???

Hmmm..... unlikely mate - with a faulty earth I would expect to see BOTH filaments in the bulb on dim.
If you can locate the earth wire - almost certainly brown with no tracer, (I would expect the other wires would be yellow with a tracer and white with a tracer) you could run a separate wire from the earth wire to a clean engine or chassis point and see what that gives.

Failing that, a good auto electrician may be your best bet.

Ok Ted no probz
I have a repkacement headlight that came today so gunna do a swap 2moro and see the outcome... Am hopin it fixes it othatwuse its back to the drawing board...... Its not a massive issue cuz both headlights work properley... But the left dipped is got mire of a yellow than the driver. Just wanted HIDS in u know... Cuz if am put them in wirh current headlight u can tell straight away when 1 side gives u 6000k colour and the other is around 4000k :(

This might be stating the obvious, and without seeing pics it is difficult to say, but with projectors they bend the light and they can change colour considerably depending on where you are standing, when standing in front of my car the left one does look more yellow. However, move over to the left more and it starts to look 'less' yellow.

Just the way the projector bends the light.

Driver side and passenger with 6k hid

It may be time to get the voltmeter out and measure the supply and earth voltages.

The supply voltage should be the same to both bulbs and if it is, check that there is zero or pretty close to it on the earth wire. Both readings taken at the bulb with headlamps on. As you now have the incandescent bulbs in this should be safe.
If you're not happy doing this, find someone who is or take the car to a good auto electrician.

Just tried a new OEM headlight and no it hasnt worked so looks like ur right Ted.... Its a wiring issue...gunna stick a volmeter on it. N see if a can locate the devil inside

I have the same problem to some degree. Later 2007 model. Keep me posted on your findings!

Will do mate.... Gunna get the voltmeter onto it this weekend.....
Let us know how it goes. I would be interested to see what it is.
Remember if both main and dip are dim, the most likely culprit will be the return (earth) route.

Blast from the past here! I have the same problem-ish, both xenons appear to have gone at the same time, shortly after I used full beams for the first time in probably 2 years.

The headlight works but the xenon ring has gone on both sides and I don’t know what to do. The headlights are really yellow now and I want my xenon glow back if possible.

Should I assume something more serious than just a dual bulb failure and send it to a garage or should I splash out £55 for each new bulb and start there?

Mine is a 2013 c220cdi.

So maybe pick 5000K ?
Thank you for that, it’s really helpful. It’s been difficult to find accurate images on Google so that’s really good!
Mine were like the ones on the right. Is there a particular colour I get or is it just known as a 6000k xenon. I love the colour of them!
