I was asking for help through this forum, not to be critized by a wannabe elitist.
I can understand your frustration however you are using a unauthorised/unsupported equipment/software but I wont judge you for that. Right, I have spoken to few friends. Now, They are unsure to exactly what OS you are using. But I assume it's a Windows XP system. Did you buy the multiplexer with the HDD pre installed with OS and DAS? If you did, Most of these HDD are set up only to use an IBM T23-T30 machine. If you try and put one of these HDD into a non IBM machine they either don't work or run badly. This may be your problem. If you have the DAS disk and installed it onto a machine it still may give you problems... I found with the Software I use I had tried to get it to work for 2 weeks with no success. Until I installed XP from fresh, Just XP with service packs that's all! I got it installed and working and just built the system with other software. Try this! Boot the system into safe mode (usually F8 before the Windows XP page) and check the com port is set up correctly. If any changes needed to be made do it now. If the port is set correctly, Uninstall the port and then reboot and let windows reinstall it. If you still get the same error. It's either the combination of Software/system or a faulty Multiplexer! Try the Ibm you mentioned earlier... Try a fresh install! As a new shop, only opened for a little over a year, it is extremly tough to come up with the thousands necessary to get the 'proper' tool. Even used, the DAS costs over 10K, It was a chance we had to take. It took nearly 100K to open the doors and to find a decent facility. We used to take the vehicle to the local dealer, their charge for coding was only a $100. But within the past couple of years the corporations that own nearly every dealer in America continue to rape the independent repair facility. Last time we took a 210 to get an EIS coded was over $1,000, there is no profit anymore in doing so.
I'm glad you have the problem nailed! I figured it was something to do with the Port but what I wasn't sure exactly what! So what is the full list of setting on the port. You could do a search on STAR on the forum and anyone with the same problem just post them link to this thread. We actually figured out what was wrong with the DAS STAR, we had to get the bits per second has to be 19200 not the typical 1900, you have to go to device manager and find the port you want and go to properties and manually change the bits per second to 19200. My wife found the answer on some Chinese web site which was in Chinese but we could somewhat understand and follow. Thanks for everyone's help, and hope no one has to go through what we did for 2 weeks
