Help with fitting a window motor, and where are the sensors?

Hi - I bought this from eBay. I'm going to fit it when the weather allows(!) but I've got a couple of questions...

Has anyone removed the motor & gearbox assembly (like I've bought) from the window mechanism and refitted it? It is difficult? Anything to look for or tips?

Also, where is the sensor that tells the system that the window is in the fully open / fully closed position please? Or does it go off motor load when the regulator stops?

Thanks.

To swop the motor, the window mechanism has to be removed completely from the door, this involves drilling out a few rivets; take care - the glass will be completely loose when you've done. Use heavy duty rivets when rebuilding and make sure you get it really tight - there's a lot of load when the motor is working and a bad rivetting job will just shear off.
The limits are set by motor load as you've said.
The reset procedure is supposed to be initiated by removing and replacing the relevant fuse, I've never had any success with this and I always have to disconnect and reconnect the battery, leaving a minute or so delay inbetween.
Resetting is simple: turn the ignition on to 2 (dashboard lights on), raise the window 'manually' by holding the button on the first click only, and keep the button in until you hear a slight click from the lifter (about 2 seconds). Lower the window fully and do exactly the same - keeping the button pressed on the first click until you hear a slight noise from the window mechanism.

If your car is a 1999? then I think that you have ordered the wrong motor and the one below is the correct type, note it has a box of tricks on it which the one that you linked too doesn’t have, if I were you I would be guided by the part number on your existing motor.

Earlier motors have 2 connection pins later motors have many more in the box of tricks.
MERCEDES W210 E-CLASS N-S WINDOW REGULATOR MOTOR on eBay (end time 21-Nov-10 15:47:52 GMT)

Apart from the above, what you want to do is possible, below is for a W202 but very similar set up.

It's straighforward enough to install the motor, just reverse the procedure of how you removed the original. Then you need to put the window fully up, holding the button for three to four seconds, then put the window all the way to the bottom for three to four seconds again. Window should be fine afterwards.

If however the model is a convertable it is a different process, a lot more involved.
