bi xenons and xenons are different.

Bi xenons have clear glass fronts with the glass bubble thing poking through.

Xenons have frosted glass fronts.

I'm very confused! I am almost certain that as an AvantGarde my car came with Bi-Xenons - but of course cannot lay my hands on the paperwork. Checked the Russian VIN number site and it does not say Xenon at all but if they were standard fitting on an AvantGarde that does not surprise me. (What are options 668 and 683 BTW?)

I have a W203 AvantGarde (May 2003) The headlamps are clear fronts with a convex front (i.e. not flat) and self-levelling with headlamp washers. Does anybody know where there are pics I could use to compare?

The original question arose because someone suggested that Bi-Xenons can be "switched" for driving on 'tother side of t'road

Thanks for the help - I hope to become knowledgeable enough to help others in the same way!

Xenons are an option on every W203 except the C32/C30/C55. Bi Xenons became standard fit around march 2003 if xenons were ordered.

Thanks for that! Your comments plus Miro's piccie tell me that I do in fact have Bi-Xenons.

Back to the original question re "switching" for other side driving.

I've been through the handbook and can see nothing. Am I missing it or is it undocumented? In that case do you know how to do it please?

Appreciated
:)

The pic above is for USA spec bi xenons. The UK are ones look better as the orange indicator/fried egg look is not visible as as the UK ones have a purple/blue tint and look even better when the bi xenons are activated!!!

I'm glibly throwing the phrase "Bi-Xenons" around - but realise that I do not know what that actually means? Apart from lights with an alternative sexuality:rolleyes: , what do they give me?

Xenon :

Dipped beam : xenon bulb and halogen side light
Main beam : Xenon bulb , halogen side light , halogen main beam.

bi xenon :

Dipped beam : xenon bulb and halogen side light
Main beam : Xenon bulb , halogen side light , Xenon main beam and halogen main beam.

The bi xenon unit works with mirrors to limit the amount of light being emitted in dipped beam mode. The mirror gets out the way and gived the full strength in main beam.
