Help with non Mercedes

It isnt running lumpy is it? early silver top Zetecs are known to burn valves out, I did one in a `93 Orion I used to thrash around in, part was only about £8 but obviously a lot of work involved for me, I assume you have checked all the sparks plugs are sparking as the coil packs are known to be a bit dodgy also.....

Its running as sweet as a nut. Its had a head job done recently (not by me) All the spark plugs are firing. Its just a mystery to me. A Ford rally man is looking at it tomorrow.

One last thought Ian, what plugs does it have in it? Zetecs are very particular about what plugs they use. They need platinum plugs (I forget the make) and they're lifed at 50,000 miles (I think) so that might be worth looking at.

New Plugs fitted, Platinum too

Me thinks we have a result. :bannana: :bannana: There is a vac line that runs behind the expansion tank going to a charcoal filter ( so I have been told ). That was crushed. Vac line removed and butterfly in the throttle body drilled and weighted. Ticks over a treat and doe not smell like unburnt fuel anymore. MoT Saturday, here's hoping ;)

Just to update people on what has transpired. It failed its MoT yet again when I took it. Emissions out of this world  Took the car back, contemplated purchasing a gallon of petrol and a box of matches. But thought, what a waste of petrol. Anyway. Removed the intake manifold and checked everything, no difference. Removed the exhaust manifold and crank case breather, re sealed everything and put it back together. Didn't feel or sound any different. Took it to MoT station and told the gaffer to do his worst. Stood there in blank amazement............it passed  :bannana: :bannana: :bannana: . Me is a Happy Bunny. Phoned customer and informed him of the cost, which is quite substantial. Customer is very happy. It happens that he had tried a number of establishments with no result. Just goes to show, if you stick at it it eventually comes good.

This sounds like a likely culprit. Don't forget it draws into the inlet manifold at idle.
Once worked on a carburettor-ed Peugeot with blocked breather into the manifold. The car was very difficult to set up and pulled away jerkily, cleaned with carb cleaner and all was fixed and emissions came right down.

Good result Ian.:bannana: :bannana:

When I read the post I was surprised that the evap pipe would make any difference.

Just goes to show, before changing any parts check everything simple is working as it should.
