Is this a front or rear door?

Carat its a rear passenger door. I hav looked and i have no idea where it came from ,even took pictures of inner door as i can look in side the structure.

From the pic it looks like a cut of mb tex. Cant say I've come across that in any that I've worked on.

The slot and little hole look deliberate...like something a lock rod would pass through? :dk:

I think you are correct. I recall something similar within the doors on my W210 when I replaced the door cards.

I have a feeling there was something like this on one of my old Mercs. I guessed at the time it was something to do with directing water that ran down the window into the door cavity to the drain holes at the bottom of the door rather than perhaps soak the back of the door trim panel. Where was it attached? My guess is it would be attached/hang down from aline along the top of the door inner skin but its probably something that is invisible till it falls off. I wouldn't worry about it- just remove it as it might impede door drainage.

^ You might be close to it there Graeme. My old 124 used to leak water down inside the A pillar and I traced that to rain running along the two C/L vacuum lines. Fixed by creating a drip inside the doorskin with a tiewrap.

Maybe that's what this thing does??? :dk:

Thank you all for input .The plastic item was on the bottom of the door doing nothing .So i have fitted the new door check strap not merc one but aftermarket that came with a nice cover on it to keep water out and lub in ..I gave it a good drink of oil and mollyslip, well i put molly on with a brush, and fitted the cover back on.Offerd it up to the door from inside .Would not fit with the cover on .The thing stopping it going flush was the rib in the door ,so i cut the bottom corner of the plastic cover of the check strap this fixed it Another thing i came across is the deadening sticky pads had come away from the inside of the door , realy worth checking out on the older cars as if it falls off, it can and will jam up the works.Refitting the door card was a pain it just would not go on the door .Reason was i had put tape over one hole that the door card hook goes in to, silly billy.
