hi all great site.

mmmm, i must say that some people sound a bit green eyed monster..........

as for cars the price of houses ect...im not going to get into a mine is bigger than yours contest there is def no need....

Well , if you read back through the postings YOU were the one who started bragging about how much you paid for your number plates , and then your cars - so YOU pretty much started it .

Most of us on here have expensive cars , but we don't brag about it .

Good manners and all that .

>Sofa King

In addition to Spinals wize words, please take a moment to familiarise yourself with the forum rules regarding advertising so you don't inadvertantly fall foul of them.

Why Sofa King btw? Is that a play on DieselBoy?

Hello

Welcome to the site, please stick around it is a great site :) honest

I also buy and sell the odd plate nothing in your league but good fun none the less and yet to lose on any plate I have bought.

A Lot of people on the site simply don't understand a private plate and wouldn't waste the time of day on one, thats fine, each to his or her own. Some people tune up their cars even E55's and I think thats a bit silly but hey its all good and I still like reading about it.

Sounds like if people are willing to pay the prices you mention your having the last laugh anyway :)

One thing, if your thinking of selling the plates also consider the web address to go with it? they can be had pretty cheaply if available and would make a nice package.

As for the spacing / legal issue I have had C2BER on my cars for 10 years (probably 5 cars) and spaced close together passed MOT's etc, stopped once near home and given I live quite close to a main police station thought I better change it....as would be pushing my luck after being told. As your selling them its up to the owner to display them as they see fit :)

Good luck and do stay around we are not all blinkered.

Hi there - looks like you've made a clever move to get those plates at that price.

Despite what the knockers say there's a big market for them.

About a decade ago Quentin Wilson pointed out how much money he'd made on private plates without even trying that hard - it was just a by product of putting ageless plates on his smokers. I thought about buying one then - wish I had now :-)

Something is only worth what someone is willing to pay, if you can find some halfwits to pay the wrong side of £10k for a plate like that, good on you for taking their money!!! Its Darwin theory in action.

Cheers guys I will stick around
nice to see nice people on an open forum
as I said I joined as this forum can help
me with some advice on certain cars
asi buy atleast 10 mercs a month to export
( that is not a brag it's a fact )
and I'm sure I might be able to offer some advice
on some topics too.
E.g shipping/prices of newish mercs/cars etc,
I am not trying to sell anyone anything
you couldn't be further from the truth.
Cheers

Hi and welcome to the forum from me too.

Great to see you're sticking around for a while, it truly is a great forum. Although it can get interesting at times. I guess that's partly the problem with internet forums as people can't see who it is at the other end as opposed to a chat amongst friends.

As others have said you've got a good set of plates there, I also have a small collection myself and keep coming across others that are too good to refuse.
Sure, not everyone else gets them one thing for sure is that there is a big market out there for them. Especially when people have and can pay the cost of a reasonable house/apartment (in some areas of the UK!) to buy some registration numbers, yes in the 100's of thousands.

thanks for the welcome
as to 100's of thousands I read the world record was just set for the plate
1 sold for nearly $15,000,000
lol
in all I only laid out £10,000 for them 10 numbers so
as I said I was very lucky mate
cheers

As with others, welcome.

Some people dont "get" personalised plates. They are worth nothing to one person, but thousands to another if they match their name/needs.

I have personal plates on 2 of my cars. Nothing special and would be meaningless to most, but i like the fact they hide the age of the car along with something personal to me. a total waste of money for some, but worth every penny to others.

there is a huge market for plates, whether you like it or not, so if there are meaningful plates that have "slipped thru the net" then if you have the cash and can be bothered, they are good investments.

True but that wasn't a UK plate. For example prices in the Middle East fetch even crazier figures which is where I think that 1 plate came from. My 100's of thousands was referring to the UK market...

Would agree with paying a few hundred to hide the age of the car but I wouldn't like to think i would ever want to spend 20k or more on one. If you've got that sort of cash to fritter away i'd prefer to do something good with it.

Also, not keen on the poor spacing thing, Sofa King, you probably missed the debate on here a while ago criticising that so its a general opinion rather than something directed at you! An illegal plate is an illegal plate at the end of the day though.

That said, some need no edits. You could run MR 60ALS pretty standard and people will get it, that's the difference between flash and a bit sad i think!

Welcome to the forum!

As you have witnessed, we have a very broad selection of the populus on here with very differing opinions!! But hey, that's what forums are for eh?!

In these hard times, you appear to be doing pretty well and it shows that there really is a big market for personal plates.

Have fun :D

Hmm, with standard spacing it would be MR60 ALS. I would stuggle to read that as MR GOALS without a leap of imagination. My first thought would be that driver's name might be Al...

Good point. Being a bit retro in look. I think the key point is you shouldn't need to compound the issue with a badly placed bolt cover...
