Hi, new member in Lancashire, near Blackpool

Hi all, I live near Blackpool, and am just starting to look for a R107 SL.

I'd be grateful for any tips, such as a whether there is a good local specialist in my area? - or whether there is a specialist dealer I should contact?

Any help would be well recieved.

You would be well advised to join the Mercedes-Benz Club (The Mercedes-Benz Club). 10,000 members, many benefits and discounts, loads of free advice, a healthy 107 forum and over 3,000 107 SL owners (including a good number in Lancashire), most of whom who would be happy to give you loads of free advice on model selection and pointers on what to look for. The main thing to watch out for on a 107 is rust, rust and more rust - most of which is well hidden, so don't buy the first shiny one you see. You need documented, photographic evidence that the rust issues have been properly sorted out. Take your time, do your research and buy with your head, not your heart.

In the meantime, give Steve Griffin a call on 07725 846627. He is a 107 restoration specialist, ex-Mercedes technician. Knows 107s inside out. He usually has one or two properly sorted cars for sale as well. Could save you a load of wasted trips and money.
