CLK 320 convertable
Hi

Just been sponge washing the hood down on my 2000 clk cab. The previous owner had obv been trying to clean with a jet wash leaving just streaks in the green. Not so bad now i have most of the green washed off but also has now revealed where he had been scrubbing as well, so there are marks from this , not frayed surface marks persay but how would I describe it `going against the grain of the fabric marks`.

Would some of the renovators hide/make these better ? Was thinking fabsil?

Thanks.

You mean use the black dye?

I was thiking the sealer would maybe be better on these marks as they are not a stain but a roughing of the fabric surface so sealer(as with leather) may blend these scrubbing marks?

I'm assuming the hood is black - the images make it look quite grey!

If so, yes - the proofer (sealer) will help but not eliminate. I spoke to Renovo before I used it on Mrs LXI's Saab - I asked how hard to scrub with the cleaner. The person I spoke to said brush on the cleaner per instructions, leave for an hour (not in sunlight obviously) then get a scrubbing brush & a bucket of water as hot as you can stand and "scrub as hard as you like". I got a bristle brush from a hardware shop which was pretty tough (the softest I could find though) and did just that. The muck that came off was epic, but it left the surface consistent with no marks. It had a few areas where the original colour appeared to have faded, so I did use the dye.

Horrible job - it's thinner than water so you find out rapidly where the drains are (it washes off though if you are quick). That left the roof looking like new, so all that was left was to reproof.

The best reproof stuff if here Gtechniq I1 SmartFabric Coat | I1-500 & I1-1000 - stunning performance.

I honestly think that just proofing will be a waste of time & money - you will still see the marks

That was more just a trick of the light, camera exposure/angle the pic was taken, here is a pic I took of the whole car at the same time as the 2 above, 2nd side on pic taken a few hrs later(was a different camera, time was incorrect).

I have it well cleaned of green. I am thinking the Black dye is not gonna do what I am meaning(although I am not certain), those marks(they are only viewable at certain angles, are not stains or fading, which I am thinking/assuming the black dye would be best for/what you are maybe meaning?) they are the surface threads of the fabric disturbed/disrupted by whatever the previous owner scrubbed it with(too hard a scrubbing brush).

Thanks for persevering with me.
