I've downloaded apple car play for use in my car (2010 A207). The blue tooth works fine with my apple iPhone but I just couldn't get the App to work in conjunction with the factory unit fitted to the car. The build sheet for my car says "Audio 20" (option code 523). I then thought the car is too old so found an adapter on amazon, but reading the small print it would only work from Mercedes 2016 onwards - dammit.

Can anyone offer some knowledge please.

As far as I know, and I have delved into this at various times, a 2010 year Mercedes Audio 20 unit will not allow car play in any form. Later models of Comand did, on the A205, and some Audio 20, but not of your model age. As with everything nothing is impossible with sufficient £££ but in reality it isn’t going to happen. If you want a professional view then contact iirc Comand Online who are a sponsor on here. They will be able to give chapter and verse…. Hth

The A207 E-Class Cabrio is based on the W204 C-Class Saloon, and the pre-facelift model of the A207 will have either the Audio20 NTG4 basic infotainment unit (which is what your car has), or the higher-end COMAND NTG4. Neither unit had native support for Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

It is generally possible, however, to add this functionality using third party kit.

You can check with Integrated Automotive if they have an external adapter that will work with Audio20 NTG4 (as opposed to COMAND NTG4):
