Remove the rear seats.

Then remove the headrests (very awkward, done from behind and best done with a mirror and patience)

Remove c-pillar trims.

Shelf pops out.

i couldn't get mine out following the hayned manual. turned out it was easier to carefully remove the speaker grills with a flat screw driver and work the subs out after unscrewing them from inside the boot. not sure they will go back in at a later date using this method, but worked for me!

Ive removed the parcel shelf a number of times, as stated removing the rear headrests has to be one of the most difficult things you can do re: trim!

If you are taking out the original mercedes speakers from the parcelshelf, you don't need to take out the parcel shelf to remove them.

Pop the speaker covers off carefully with a screwdriver. Disconnect the speaker wiring plug for each soeaker.

Then from inside the boot, push in the black plastic tabs on the speaker retainers and push them up a little.

From inside the car, wriggle them up and sideways and they will come out. It takes a bit of wriggling and patience but they will come out.

If you wish to put them back in, first separate the speaker from the plastic retainer and install the retainer on its own and then screw the speaker in.

Saves a lot of hasstle this way.

With a few other things on my car sorted I managed to find time to work on the speakers. Took them out no problem. Wow thw difference in the bass!! still have to keep the sound low when I'm driving with my 2 year old son

Hello there, I'm just looking at updating my speakers c200 elegance auto. I've had a look at the rears and they're upside down (firing into the boot) and look very shallow does it mean u can only fit shallow ones in? Also it has a crossover built onto the speaker I presumedly for the rear doors!
