I see we currently have a question about a bulb. So..........

Stolen from another site:

How many message board members does it take........
...to change a lightbulb??

1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed

14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light
bulb could have been changed differently

7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs

1 to move it to the Lighting section

2 to argue then move it to the Electricals section

7 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs

5 to flame the spell checkers

3 to correct spelling/grammar flames

6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb" ... another 6 to
condemn those 6 as anal-retentive

2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp"

15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that "light bulb"
is perfectly correct

19 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please take this
discussion to a lightbulb forum

11 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use light bulbs
and therefore the posts are relevant to this forum

36 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy
the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique
and what brands are faulty

7 to post URL's where one can see examples of different light bulbs

4 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected
URL's

3 to post about links they found from the URL's that are relevant to this
group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group

13 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all
headers and signatures, and add "Me too"

5 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot
handle the light bulb controversy

4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"

13 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about
light bulbs"

1 forum lurker to respond to the original post 6 months from now and start
it all over again

Very funny !!

I'm glad to say that this board is not actually that bad at all, as far as the above is concerned !

Another forum that I found obviously has had similar experiences though . . . . they state in each section :-

POLITE NOTICE

Hi Everyone ...

First, we'd like to welcome all of the new members to the xxxx website. We're really pleased that you've found us, and hope to see you all joining in around the various discussion forum areas we have here, and becoming regulars to the site just like so many already are.

Unfortunately, the team and our regulars have noticed an increase in abusive posts being submitted by a very small minority, and we'd like to ask that those responsible please stop, and think before submitting their post. We won't tolerate abuse here, and we won't tolerate abusive remarks aimed at any members of the site, whether they've been here for just one day or a whole year. A big thanks must go to the many members who have been helping us recently by clicking on the 'report this post' link found at the bottom right of each post made, and informing us of content that needs looking over by the team.

The Boring Bit

We do have a Term Of Service for the site which each and every member agreed to upon registration. Could we ask that members take a few minutes to read it please. Yes, I know that most people skip reading anything like this, but please ... the link is here and we'd be grateful if you'd take the time to check it. Thanks.

Duplicate Threads

Could members please check to see that the thread they're about to create, doesn't already exist in another part of the forums. We'll either merge such threads with the one already running, or, we'll lock and delete it, or just delete it. A few minutes spent reading through the forum areas saves you getting annoyed if we have to delete the thread you've taken time to create. Thanks.

Posting In Correct Areas

Everyone will notice we have a number of different forum areas. For some reason, many still post within the wrong areas, which means we then have to move your thread and send you a message informing you of what we've done. It would be great if people could post in the correct areas. If you find a recent post of yours is not where you submitted it, take a look in your profile where you'll find details of the location of the last post you made, plus, clicking on 'search for all posts by this user' shows every post you've made and their locations. Again, thanks.

Have A Problem?

Simple! Let us know and we'll do our best to help you out. If you're not sure about something, ask. If there's something on the site that concerns you, please tell us. If we're doing something wrong, we'd like to know. If we're doing something right, well then please let others know.

Best regards,

On behalf of the Moderating Team

actually - there is some "not bad" advice in there !!

Simon,

You forgot to mention the 1 who questions the legalities of changing a bulb light bulb lightbulb lamp .... erm .... electrically connected device producing an effect whereby allowing the operator at times required of said vehicle, vision when the natural resources of the sun are not available, ensuring the prevention of accidents and adherence to the common laws within the environment to which said vehicle is operating within.

and a few more from around the world :)

5 to say that you should use Mobil 1 to make the light bulb stay clean and last longer.

35 list members would be required to post on the imminent demise of one's cruise control if one dared use anything other than a genuine MB bulb

45 would refer you to an aticle by someone who rebuilds said
cruise control amps, and says that it really doesn't matter what type of bulbs you use.!

7 members needed to debate the torque setting for the light bulb

11 members to discuss the accuracy and type of torque wrench required to meet manufacturers specs

Ill be reading this again in 6 months time when the forum lurker gets around to posting lmao:D
