Just tried to book an A Service and MOT (first MOT) for an E200SE .... Quoted price :

I swear that

a. My E63S is less than that
b. I never paid for a loan car

What am I missing here ? Did prices go up like that over the last few weeks ??

Who was that with? Best you find a good Indy!

I normally get charged £20 for the loan car have done for the last 2 years as for service I supply my own parts bought from either MB Newcastle or Edinburgh its a way cheaper option 🙂

I have had another recall on my S211 regarding the sunroof, anyway the MOT is due and it is due an oil and filter change too ( my schedule) so thought I would ask my local dealer for a quote to carry out the oil and filter change and MOT it as it was there.

Good job I was sitting down, a mere £480, “takes nine litres of oil you know” said she.. wtf…

less than £100 for the parts from their parts counter and even less from the MB dealership in Newcastle inc postage.

I just checked, and Service Care Plan prices are equally eye-watering...:

Must be a recent price hike then as our V class is on a good deal from last year for the next few. Good for good independents though..

Perhaps this is a last hurrah for dealers before everyone is in EVs!

They still need servicing.....despite what their advocates imply.....and it can be (or in the case if Mercedes or course WILL BE) expensive too.

We think MB are price parasites. My wife's X Trail needs rear suspension wishbones. Dealer wants £972 each. Aftermarket supplier is shipping the pair to me for £145.

That makes sense. Looking at the link you posted, car manufacturers typically charge for servicing their EVs between one-half and two-thirds of what they charge for their petrol or Diesel cars.

This can well explain the recent MB servicing price hike - EV owners will pay MB what ICE car owners used to pay so far... and ICE car owners will get properly shafted going forward. Nice one, MB.

Just checked MB's Service Care Plan current pricing:

The EQA is £44 per month for 12 months to cover 2 services, which works out as £264 per service under a Service Care Plan.

The A-Class is £62 per month for 12 months to cover 2 services, which works out as £372 per service under a Service Care Plan.

So the servicing of the EQA under a service plan now costs as much as I paid for my ICE C-Class.... while the non-electric variant now costs 40% more than the EV.

The ratio in itself is reasonable and expected, given that EVs are less complicated mechanically than ICE and don't require as much maintenance, but the fact that MB simply raised the baseline smacks of sharp practices.

A couple of weeks ago I had a ‘B’ service on my 2021 GLC this included brake fluid change and cabin filter the total cost from memory was £490 ish anyway less than £500.

I was talking to the service advisor who advocated a service plan but I told him that I did go online and looking at quoted prices it seemed cheaper to not go this route.

He told me that there is very little price difference between an A and B service but that the plan fixes prices as dealerships seem to be upping their hourly rates.

I have to say I have always had really good service from Mercedes in Norwich and the prices I have paid at main dealership has not differed hugely from local specialists.

I had very good service from MB Brooklands over the years, and at very a reasonable price under the Service Care Plan. I no longer have a Merc, not sure what I would have done today given dealer service current pricing (and the sale of the MB Brooklands dealership)

Prices vary by one dealer to another.

I suspect the dealer the OP has selected is either London based or close by.

You pay for a courtesy car these days and have done for ages.

Sometimes if you want a deal you can shop around.

Eg - Brooklands and Guildford are fairly close to each other. Guildford are cheaper and usually offer a courtesy car FOC.

The other thing to consider here is that everything has gone up now, I would expect servicing to be no different in this respect.

A 10-20% increase would be in line with most other industries, so £400 or £450 a year or two back would be £500 nowadays.

OP - can you give the itemised breakdown of the service? At three years old there may be additional items on an A-service that wouldn’t have been included on the first years ‘A’ - eg air or cabin filters perhaps?

@Will This is actually Bury St Edmunds. Far from London and unfortunately I don’t have an itemised list. I scheduled it with out independent in our village including its first MOT. Even if the price would be the same I’d rather give the money to a local business.

I do remember the list was a bit more than just oil change but I remember the first services on my e63s was like half that.

Will report back when I got prices off the local. They asked which service I want and they actually checking which items need doing. Weirdly the website of mb recommends service A. The car demands service b. Car got 25k miles and has its first MOT end of March.

We shall see. But I am done with dealer I think.

If it’s the second MOT test the car must be approaching 4 years old? Perhaps there’s some additional items then - could even be spark plugs etc?

Don’t forget you’ll lose Mobilo if you take it out of the dealer network. Not saying that’s necessarily a problem for you but worth comparing apples with apples when you shop around.

Not sure who runs the Bury St. Edmunds branch but it’s a shame you’re not closer to somewhere like this:

Makes quite a difference cost wise on older vehicles :thumb:
