mercedes w124
I'm sure this has been raised before, but is there a surefire method to tell if a new w124 (unpainted) wing is a genuine Mercedes part, as opposed to a pattern part?

I've read that there are no part numbers, but there should be "star" symbol stamped on the panel.

Is this correct, and if so, does anyone have a pic of where the star symbol is located?

Thanks

If it's rusty, it's genuine :p

If genuine it'll be stamped with a small MB star logo on the vertical surface where the bonnet comes down to make the shut line, where it bolts to the engine bay.

IME MB wings are a lot heavier than pattern wings so if you have both to hand the weight will tell you

I took a bathroom scales to breaker when viewing wing.

If I remember it was 2 kg for pattern and 4 kg. Does that sound correct ?

I know the genuine wing was twice the weight of pattern one.

Also, as above post, the Star is stamped on inner turnover, but is painted
over, so look carefully - you should see it.

Thanks all.

Unfortunately, I don't have a pattern wing to compare, but will take on board the weights listed above.

How big is the MB Star logo - 10mm, 5mm, smaller ?

Just to close this off, the points raised above really did help.

The new genuine front wing I picked up had a small (approx 3-4mm diameter) circular MB star logo stamped on the vertical section along with some other numerical stampings. They are pretty difficult to see on the new wing with just the original e-coat/primer applied, so I would imagine they are almost invisible when painted over.

In terms of weight, the new wing (without paint) weighs 3.9kgs.
