Good day,
Apologies if asked before but searched all relevant words, but with little joy. I am in the process of purchasing a 2015 E Class estate night edition but all the black window trims are discoloured/marked with the 2 each side of the boot area particularly bad. On searching the internet I have found this to be a problem on BMW’s. Anyone else suffered or advise how to clean, I believe it’s anodized aluminium. Trader has offered to respray, but not sure how long that would last?
Thanks in advance.

Hi, it's the same with Jaguars. If they're not corroded (Yes aluminium can "rust") painting is a good option, provided they use a good etch primer, Bilt Hamber for example. Good luck, Martin.

You could try some cutting compound, but go easy as you do not want to go through it. A gentle hand rub with a microfiber cloth, see how it is going and then repeat.

Had a mark from where i slid my fingernail up one accidentally and had to get some T cut on it, but lightly, then polish it.

They are not covered with clear lacquer ....they are just gloss black and the paint comes off on the rag so be gentle.

try a ow level cutting compound as above but use a sealant after to stop them going again
