How wide is a Vito inside?

Odd question here, following on from my Motorhome and being drunk thread I've seen that late Vito's can be had at sensible money, unlike a Transporter. Now forgetting all the Vito problems like rust  - I'm used to rust now - I'm wondering how wide they are inside, given they only come in SWB I've had to change my game plan about the layout for my camper conversion. Oh and are they FWD?

They're a little better looking than a Transporter too :o

Old shape (638) Vitos rust like hell and are FWD. I guess you're asking about those as the new shape (639) comes in 3 lengths. Those are RWD and apart from very early ones, galvanised with a 12 year bodywork warranty.

Can't help with 638 dimensions but I've got a 639 brochure here. Or I could go outside and measure mine :)

I measured the new Transit we have at work and it was 1700mm from wall to wall, I can't see a Vito being any bigger. That's a bit of a squeeze for me.
With there not being a LWB it rules one out.
A Sprinter is a bit big and being RWD there's a lot of wasted space in the floor area.

A LWB Transporter it is I think!

So you know, these are the dimensions for the '07 Vito:

Mercedes Vito Dimensions
  • Overall Length (mm) 4748
  • Overall Width (mm) 1901
  • Overall Height (mm) 1902
  • Loading Height (mm) 556
  • Load Height (mm) 1338
  • Load Length (mm) 2422
  • Load Width (mm) 1277/1650
  • Load Volume (m?) 4.65

My dad has a SWB sprinter, and it's not that much bigger than a Vito. Inside, their is qute a fair bit of space, so i certainly wouldn't rule them out.

Here is a pic of a sprinter which looks very similar to ours:

I almost had our work Sprinter, 54 plate with 200k (), it was a medium wheelbase effort and would of been ideal. Didn't happen though :(

These Sprinter's can do really high miles. I saw a 2004 Sprinter at a local dealer a few months ago which had done 400k miles! .The salesman told me it had already been sold and was about to be shipped abroad.

When I used the one I mentioned it was a bit too juicy on fuel for it to be viable. It wasn't a fast one either :(

I agree. Our Sprinter is a 208D which just about moves and it is quite thirsty but it does the job.

One downside to the Sprinter is that it's too tall to go in any car park with a height restriction.

Without roof rails the 639 Vito is only 1.9m high, so no problems there.

Just to be clear, that's for the smallest 639 Vito (Compact). The Long and Extra Long are ... err ... longer :o
