So, I have my new steel sump back from the welders and there is a slight distorsion in the flange. No more than 1mm +/- 1/2mm over a length of 200mm mid-flange.
Would I be better to use Silicone RTV (on it's own) as a gasket or use the OE sump gasket with RTV or Hylomar Blue as a seal?

Wouldnt you be better off machining it flat?

I would use the OE gasket and decent sealant. Cheapo RTV is awful. MB do a black sealant that is excellent. £13 a tube.

You could rub it down with grinding paste on a piece of glass.
