What colour is my car?

I want to try and done some of the required bodywork myself, but dont know what paint to get, can I buy it off the shelf? do I have to get it from MB? or do I need to have it mixed/matched?

I know its silver, but are there is more than one shade, any idea what mine is

Hi it looks like iridium silver, because it is metalic i think you have to go back to mb and they will ask you for the chassis number for a perfect match up to your car

Any automotive paint supplier will be able to supply the correct paint if you give them the paint code.

The paint code is on inside of the drivers pillar.

You will find it very difficult to get a good match "on the car" . Try it on an inconspicuous part of the car first. Even the pros find light metallics difficult with the thickness of the clear lacquer often altering the perceived shade.

Looks like brilliant sliver (code 744) to me, any decent paintshop should be able to match it, not just MB

If your not used to painting, your in the deep end, with silver, as hard to match, even for pros.

No I dont think it is but I will have a look at the code. The touch up pen I have is brilliant silver and its way off.

Have you any pictures of the area to be repaired?

This is the worst bit

I can report that Halfords Brilliant Silver was good match for my car. It was actually better than the MB supplied twin pack. However Glasurit who used to be OEM supplier for MB list a least half a dozen "variations" of Brilliant Silver so its best to get a custom mix from a specialist supplier if possible

I would start with the third picture, as you can get close to the swage line.

? Please explain? The 3rd is not so bad, its the first one that I want to crack on with.

The lip part of the panel, I know the third is not the worst, but if you start with that one, you will get the feel of the paint etc, if you know what i mean, lol :)

OK, as its less visible? So if I balls it up its not as noticeable.

Are you using any primer/rust converter after you sand off the loose paint?

would be most interested to hear your process and see some pics...good luck!

1, I will flake off the loose paint,
2, rub off any loose debris/rust with wire brush
3, Paint on some krust or similar
4, Paint on some rust proof primer
5, fill any bad holes or indents
6, spray high build primer
7, rub back
8, repeat 6&7 until i am happy
9, prime
10, paint
11, flat
12, clearcoat
13, flat
14, polish

If I have any of that wrong, please let me know, but that is waht I did on my mini and that seemed to work ok
