I have had the car approx one working day..

It was like a cracking/jarring etc.

At first i thought it was the 19's rubbing up against the walls of my cars or something. It sounded horrible, like the tyres were shredding. Coming from both sides.

I actually slowed to a crawled on a dual carraidge way and was being horned and yelled at by drivers on their way home.

I only had the car one day, and i thought the dreaded mercedes jinx had turned its ugly head again.

I drove into the place i bought it, and they took it for a quick spin. Actually two guys took it for a spin. Both very helpful..

I then looked underneath the car, and the bloody undertray was loose. Well one side of it anyway.

Seems the guys that did the servicing did not secure the undertray properly.

A sigh of relief later, and a lift home courtesy of the dealer sorted me out..

Btw, the car is superb to drive. Apart from a loose undertray!

Ha ha..
I once hit an errant road cone weighted with sand. It sounded like a fighter aircraft was flying overhead.

Have I turned over two pages at once?

Just two weeks ago, you were sworn off Mercedes, for ever!

Yes but the three pointed star is difficult to resist.

Bolton Mercedes may have soured my buying experience. But after trawling through cars for days on end i decided for the moment it was the W211 for me.

I bought it from a local dealer instead.

Given your luck it must be very hard.

I am glad you like your car, and that it serves you well.

Who did the service? Are they paying for a new undertray?

The service was part of the deal i brokered when i bought the car. The car had 900 miles till its next service and i told them i would only buy it if they serviced it.

I was told it would be a non-MB garage. Fair enough.

So i am picking it up tomorrow with a repaired undertray. The undertray itself is not damaged. it was not scraping or anything. One side of it came loose. I assume a screw came off or a clip etc.

It was a horrible noise though. Anyone know if it would make such a noise? Just imagine a tyre being shredded at high speed. Like a flapping noise

The noise i was hearing was the wind being funnelled through the undertray gap.

After searching on the web it seems to happen a lot..

Had a tyre go once on a W210.... think at 80 mph ish??

Was suprised how stable the car was and how easy it was to slow and pull over to the hard shoulder...

Very Impressed.. But Scarey so I can imagine how you must have felt

Welcome back.

I had a look at a red BM5 at Top Gear JC drove on Dave channel yesterday, the dash is a bland brushed aluminium.

Glad to see you back, this time with a Merc which works and has genuine mileage (hopefully lol)
Can't believe your luck however that as soon as you get in the darn thing something goes wrong - bet Merc is thinking you're their worst nightmare!!

Enjoy the car - I am sure once you get over the teething problems all will be fine and you'll LOVE having your car!
