My battery is just about goosed so I thought I'd break out the newly purchased scanner to see when it was changed (if at all). However on boot up- Service- there is no BMS icon and when I look in "Diagnostics" and go through the menus to find battery monitor there is a "no link" message.
Icarsoft is latest version 23.02

That's what the blurb on iCarsoft MB v2.0 says:

" + Battery Coding (BMS)
To ensure a vehicle's electrical system is running at maximum efficiency, many newer vehicle's automatically adjust charge cycles and alternator settings based on battery condition. When it is time for a Battery Change, the iCarsoft V2.0 allows you to register a new battery and reset parameters - a function normally restricted to dedicated battery diagnostic tools."

Shouldn't you be looking for it in the diagnostics section after choosing the vehicle model?

Yep thats what I tried via "Diagnostics" when I get link error, it should have it's own icon in "Service"

Do you/have you ever been able to auto read VIN on MBV2.0 or do you select your model of car manually?

Not tried that always select manually

Try reading the VIN automatically and allowing the system to choose the model instead of selecting manually if it can't be read but the MBV2.0 unit is powered on, it's a very long shot this, but might be something as simple as it's not seated into the cars obdii port completely ...as I've had it (an mb v3.0) not read the VIN automatically on occasion because of this (or your model of car is older hence the VIN can't be read automatically).

Cheers I'll have a play tomorrow, not sure if it reads my vin automatically

What I found odd on the MB v2.0 is that when choosing my particular vehicle, some ECUs were inaccessible, which is to be expected, but the weird thing is that when I chose a model with a different engine - i.e. not the exact variant that my car was - the previously-inaccessible ECU modules were then accessible and read correctly. Odd.

I think you could be right, no BMS on my car, time to ask Mr Google

Agreed - especially so in my experience if car VIN code cannot be read automatically - the variant I selected if I recall correctly was a post Facelift version of a similar model.

Do you know this function is actually supported by some module on the vehicle? Just because there is an icon on icarsoft doesn't mean anything.
Agreed as well, think there must be a pdf listing what should be accessible based on model / year.

Even on vehicles with some form of BMS often the only option you have is a reset, not read data like serial numbers that you see on some YouTube vids.

If it's an MB battery it should have a manufacture date code stamped on the top of one of the terminals.

Just another (likely silly) thought… I generally operate these scan tools in ignition on mode (not just accessory mode or with the engine running)… when interrogating the modules provided I’m confident the battery is in decent health… in this case if I’ve understood correctly the battery itself is in question which may complicate matters.

Try updating the icarsoft software. But I just paid £260 for an icarsoft cr pro . And it doesn't list anything for mercedes, but it's there for 40 other brands , for BMS .

How do you get the CR Pro to detect vehicle by VIN? I always have to tell it the car it's connected to. The wrong car in my '04 W203's case, I have to tell it it's it's an '03 to get all the functions. Facelift cutoff?
My cheap Launch CReader vi autodetcts the correct car, I wonder why the CRPro seemingly can't, especially as once you've told it it shows the VIN.

My mb3 used to but the cr doesn't. Tbh your better off with it not , because you can't trick it into thinking your car is another, I have to tell it my GLC 350 is a ml350 to get any engine functions to display, even then it's pretty much garbage tbf.

Apparently no BMS on my car only from 2016 build onward. Still doesn't explain the icon missing on the scanner, maybe with the latest software (v23.02) its been moved to "diagnostics" menu.

If your car has Start/Stop, then it should have at least some sort of basic BMS.
