Need some guidence on an issue with my 1996 E240 (auto).

Had an issue with a flat battery recently. Called AA for a jump start and replaced the battery. Since then, the car starts, the idle is not so smooth, selecting drive and moving off, the engine will stall.

To get round this, i have to warm the car up or floor it to keep the revs up!

FYI - I had the Cat changed recently for a reconditione unit, but i'm sure I can hear a rattle again too.

Any advice???

IIRC this could be the OVP relay. Over voltage protection relay.
Alternatively is the engine running generally rough at idle, even when warm, if so it could be a plug lead off or and air leak, or the dreaded MAF.

Why not get the AA to have a look since it's since they jump started it that yuo have a problem.

Hi, I will give them a call to see what they suggest. I hope it will something simple like the autochoke, as the rough idle and stalling only happens when the car is started from cold.

would the OVP relay cause these symtoms? is this an easy/cheap thing to change to test it out?

Hi,

I have found a thread on testing the OVP which I will do with a mutlimeter. To save me hunting around and because I'm new to MB, where is the location of the relays, and is the OVP clearly marked? if not, does anyone know its position?

Cheers.
