Not sure if this is a problem, but my w202 c230k is quite loud upon start up and even when it settles down, the idle seems a bit high. Is this normal?

It hovers slightly below 1000 rpm in Park. In Drive or Reverse, it settles down to about 700. Are there any small replacements I can do to smooth out the idle? Plugs were changed 3 years ago, still using original coils and wires...

Thanks in advance for reading.

Hi mine idles at about 700-750rpm in park and around 650ish in drive! They rev higher when cold for a few mins as to heat cats up quicker for emissions. Does it hunt up and down at all when ticking over when warm? Carl.

Also I'd of changed plugs before 3 years to be honest but all depends on how many miles you do. When you say noisy what do you mean? Ticking or metallic sounding? Mines quite so maybe a oil change with good oil is needed.

Yes don't think the state of the plugs dictate the idle speed, there is some other 'clock' in the system that dictates the speed that the engine needs to maintain when the throttle is not activated so is your throttle adjusted correctly?

I thought the rpm in park and gear was adjusted by Star?

ahh ok, thank you for the responses. I'll take it to the mechanic to see if this is normal for my car. :)
