I have got a message from that nice Mr Gates of Seattle in my automatic updates box about IE9 being ready to download.

I tried it once and made internet banking a no-go.

The question is, should I install it?

Thanks chaps.

If you are happy with what you've got, then no. Read the release notes of the new update and see if any of the new features appeal or apply to you.

Broke one of my sites that I use to obtain mapping data. Had to uninstall it.

Shame, because as a whole I prefer it.

Not from an email link. If you want it, go to the Microsoft site direct.

I've been using it for a month or so now and find it OK. Dioes seem to have some minor bugs, though. For instance, when posting on this forum, if I use the down arrow to move the cursor, it doesn't stop on the last line of text - it actually jumps out of the edit box and onto the screen background below the box; only way to get it back into the box is by touching the screen (or using the mouse). Also, the Radio part of BBC iPlayer usually doesn't work with IE9, meaning I've been going to radioplayer.com instead.

My HP laptop has recently had update constipation, with failed attempts to update on boot up and shut down, so I checked the history, and IE9 was in there, along with Windows 7 SP1. I've now installed the lot, starting with IE9, and all the other updates followed suit. The laptop doesn't seem to overheat as much now, an HP weakness.

I've just done a bit of internet banking (with Barclays) without issue, and generally it seems okay, reminding me more of Chrome, based on my limited experience with that.

I have found this forum very slow the last few days, but so have others I think, so don't know if it's related. The one thing I've noticed, when typing a lenghtier reply like this, is the wording in the reply window can look as if it's about to dissolve if you go to another window and back!

Maybe the service pack has sorted out one or two issues I wasn't aware of, but so far I'm happy with it, and no doubt Mr Gates will send something along to tweak it up a bit more at some point.

Having tried and rejected the final beta version I bit the bullet and installed the released download from MS Updates.

Internet banking is fine, I have noticed maps on property finder sites did not appear but I traced this to tracking protection. Turn it off for those sites and it's fine.

No problem here with the text cursor in the box. It stays put on the last line.

To be honest, it's not that much different from IE8 from a user point of view. Maybe a little quicker, and a better download manager but that's about it.
I think I'll keep it.

The site has indeed been v-e-r-y s-l-o-w the last few days. Seems OK now though.

That was my experience as well... no major issues but no major benefits either. I suppose it is more secure - to the extent that any version of Internet Explorer can be considered 'secure' - but otherwise it is your decision.

I was happy with IE8 but 9 seemed to install itself a few days ago along with the SP1. Soesn't seem to have caused any problems yet, prefer to old interface though.

It's sitting in my Microsoft update notifier, not in email.

Mixed feelings then chaps, hmmm.

I'd consider it, simply because it is better from a security point of view.

Personally I prefer Firefox, which is just nicer than IE, but I run IE9 as well for a couple of sites which luddite enough to be IE only.

If you prefer Firefox to IE, there is an add on called "IE Tab" which fools most sites into thinking you are using IE.

I've given in today and installed IE9, so far so good. Took me a while to find out how to have the command bar at the top though!

I tried it for a week and downgraded..

Lots of sites that I use to buy from for Work didn't work correctly, so I will wait until others catch up....

I've been using it for a couple of weeks now, no problems, on W7.

Yes got it in the auto update. So far I have downloaded it 3 times and it doesn't work on my laptop.

I sometimes think I'm a bit unusual , in that I don't have any of Mr. Gates' products on my computer .

I switched one of our laptops onto it to give it a try, no problems so far internet shopping, Autotrader, web site editing all works fine, so far so good:thumb:
